I almost went to 41 Sunday with my whipple stang! But I'm on the stock clutch half shafts and street tired so I didn't want to break anything. Can't wait to see you next year!
I still have my stock shafts if you want to buy them really cheap and keep them as spares :D

Diaphragm clutch ( chevy style ) have always had this problem .. My 63 SS with a 283 would do the same thing at 7k ... Long style three finger that ford used years ago didn't have this problem nor did the borg & beck style three finger that Chrysler used ...

It's the clutch.. Namely, the pressure plate. We had the same problem with our original shop car last year. The high rpm makes the diaphragm start to flatten out on it's own due to centrifugal force at that rpm. The trick is to lighten up the diaphragm by going to a 3 or 5 finger setup. McLeod is always hit or miss when trying to spin over 7k rpm. I've had them work in other cars to 7800rpm, no problem. But, it's not always that way. We currently have the same issue with Jeff's high hp 2015 mile car. We can't rev it over 7200 or so, because it'll start to disengage the clutch on it's own.
so what do you recommend people buy then? Im in the market right now and was about to buy the RXT

With all due respect to Travis, the 3 and 5 finger clutch he is referring to is not an RXT, that is a street twin, they are not the same. The street twins will have problems going over 7k RPM for sure, McLeod does not recommend them for even the 4.6L guys that plan on 67-6800 RPM.

McLeod recommends the RXT's for high HP cars looking to spin 7k and they have been used to 8500 RPM, in our own 2015 Gt as well as our 2012 Boss 302. If the car is making closer to 1000 rwhp or you just want extra piece of mind in the higher RPM, McLeod now makes an HD version of the RXT and they are rated to 1200 hp. Give us a call if you are interested in getting set up at a great price for these RXT HD clutches.

Derek.. That was advice straight from Mcleod.. I have the clutch you guys ran in your gt500 in our 1100whp 2015 GT. We cannot spin it past 7500rpm without the diaphragm flattening out. When we contacted Mcleod, they asked us to send in the pressure plate to have a 3 finger design installed. This is your 1400whp rated clutch tested in your GT500.

We've had the same issue on and off with Coyote RXT and RST units.. It's hit or miss.

Weird, because that style clutch you referred to was one that I have never heard of (3 and 5 finger RXT) so I spoke with the shop foreman at McLeod and he confirmed for me that the 3 and 5 finger clutches are indeed street twins. In our experience, the RXT has shifted fine over 8k RPM using the stock shifter, trans and hydraulics. Shoot me a PM on who you spoke with so we can get this straightened out to make sure the correct info is being put out there.
