Hey y’all. I’m getting a clicking noise in my front suspension on my 17 GT. It happens when the wheel is turned 75% ish of the way and it has gotten worse as it’s gotten colder outside or so it seems.

I took it to the dealer for a professional diagnosis since I just replaced the lower ball joints, and they say it’s the steering rack and it’s almost 3 grand to replace at ford if my warranty doesn’t cover it…. It happens at slow speeds and stationary while backing up or driving forward. At a loss here.

anyone else ever have any issue?

Hello I recently had my steering rack replaced on my about 3 year old Mustang. I am out of warranty and Ford did cover a little over half the cost, my dealership asked them to help out and they agreed perhaps yours can do the same.

They had my car a month and tried a bunch of different things before they had to get a Ford engineer out to determine the cause of my knock. I had replaced suspension parts and at first it was tracked to that, I gave them old parts to try and long story short it was my rack which they had never seen before. They gave me a loaner free of charge during all of this.

I had replaced my shocks with Ford Performance track ones when my mechanic initially diagnosed this issue as a bad shock. Ford thought the same thing and tried swapping old parts back on, amongst many other things. They have a good Mustang tech and he was really trying hard to figure it out. It was the best I've ever been treated I can tell you that much, they were really communicative and friendly throughout.

Sorry to hear you have the same issue. I am hoping it doesn't happen again. They said I wasn't at fault at all for this issue, just something that happened and not anything I could have done to prevent or cause it.

I ended up paying about $1500 or so for the repair. My car had about 25k miles on it at the time.

They did admit right away none of the suspension mods I had done would cause this, which made me feel good.

What were your symptoms? This is really helpful info. I’m not opposed to paying 3k if I know for sure it’ll fix it. The inspector was at the dealer today and they said the warranty company should be contacting them letting them know how to move forward.

The only symptom was an occasional clunk when turning left that turned into an happens all the time clunk turning left. Operated and drove fine otherwise.

Definitely ask Ford for assistance, if your dealership won't maybe it would be helpful for you to call the ford customer service and state your complaint/request to them. Ford paid without seemingly any hesitation for part of this, but I do have a history with them due to a buy back of a 2019 GT I ordered so sometimes I feel like I get special treatment, not sure if that's true or not but I also have been treated extremely well by the dealer I ordered both GTs from.

I hope yours helps you out too and doesn't just try to collect 3k. But that price is what I was told from my dealer as well. The rack itself is very pricey.

Yeah I’m getting a clicking noise everytime I turn left/right almost to lock out. Pulling in and out of parking spots. It’s so bad and it sounds awful.
