If I wanted an auto trans with a manual valve body and overdrive that will fit in the tunnel of the 15' without cutting the car up, what are my options? Has anyone done this yet? What's in the Watson car? Are their any kits available (trans, cooler, convertor, driveshaft, mount, etc)? I am seriously considering this but I don't want to cut up the car or be a test pilot.

Hey Rainmaker, I'm in the process of doing this swap also. Spoke to Travis at BoostWorks about this exact thing when i glew up my MT-82. A 4R74W should fit just fine. If you go with Lentech they make them with full manual valve body, and trans brake. You have to get a custom driveshaft made, and not sure about the mounting though.

4r70w is probably the best option for a 4spd lockup auto. I've put a 4l80 in a s197 and you have to move the trans crossmember back and clearance the floorpan. The 6r80 is pretty happy gear ratio wise until 800-900rwhp....so that is an option too.

6r80 must use a TCU though correct? More expensive than the the 4r70w also right?

I'm really hoping someone will chime in on the 4r70w fitting without having to hack up the floorpan in a 15.

Justin, I've decided on going 6r80. With my setup I doubt I'll go over 900whp for a little bit. [emoji78]

Now I just need to find a Mustang 6r80 I can buy in Florida.

Per the 11-14 crowd that has done it:

transmission 6R80
the transmission wire (it goes from ecm to alternator battery, power steering)
auto ecm
torque converter (hold by 4 bolt M10*1)
flexplate (bolts to crank shaft are shorter on auto)
the shield plate between trans and motor
console is the same
auto shifter top console, chrome bezel maybe fit (but not sure )
the wire is already inside console for plugging shifter electric
brake pedal i think it is optional
the vacuum on intake have 1 more in on the inlet i think it is not an issue..
plug the master cylinder outlet for clutch
drive shaft
trans cooler+lines

personally I would consider a different trans with a manual valve body if you're going to go thru all the hassle of a swap. I'm gonna rock the MT82 one more season with a few changes I'm making and if I can consistently run 10.4 - 10.7s I'll be happy to keep rowing gears for awhile...

I was under the impression the 6r80 was the end all be all of autos. They seem to be so much faster than the manual cars. So much so I have been thinking about trading my pp car in on a manual. Only problem is I would hate to swap all the parts from my pp car to the auto. Mainly being the headers as that's a $hitty job.

I want to build a high power blown car, but it seems to get deep 9's I should have bought the auto.

I should have done my research more before buying. Last mustang I owned was a fox body when they were still a new car and back then the manual was the faster option. So I ordered a manual 3.73 car. Little did I know the hot ticket now is the auto 3.15 package. Lol
