Annual VED (Road Tax) Renewal

Just had my annual VED (Road Tax) renewal through for my 17MY GT and it’s great to be paying £140 same as the neighbours Ford Fiesta

It is a ridiculous unfair tax. The same Mustang model but earlier is a lot more - every year.

Yep and the new 18 models as they will be over £40k. That's one of the reasons I waited for the 17 model. It's not unfair it's just tax avoidance, which is legal!

My baby is 2 years old this month and today instead of birthday cards I received a lovely letter from DVLA wanting £535 for for my tax.

Mighty pissed about it but what can you do ?

It is ridiculous though that one year's worth of a model pays significantly less tax, but fair play to those that benefit
I pay mine monthly so its a constant but much smaller irritation. Wouldn't change the last two years ownership...

I wonder if the differences in VED will have much impact on second hand prices? If I was looking for a second hand mustang a £400 difference would factor quite heavily into my decision!

On the 2018 it's only the added VED for the first 3 years and then it reverts back to £140 the same as a 2017. So around a grand extra over 3 years for what I consider a superior car.

but did you not have to pay 2k upfront?

It was 1k ontop of list price if it was ordered before a certain date and arrived when the VED had changed. If you ordered after VED change it was already included in the price, as they rose the base price 1k to cover it.
