Gonna try to make one at work on the cnc. Got a block of aluminum with a slug of brass pressed in it. Going for the 2 1/8" size but not sure what the over all height should be considering the attachment area is flattened, counterbored, drilled and tapped. So anyone have an aftermarket knob and calipers handy? :)

That's going to be murder on your palm after parked in a parking lot on a hot day! I accidentally touched the trim around the cup holder and found out it didn't take long to look at it.

NOTE TO SELF. ..Use window shades haha . I put the height at 1.8". Probably off by a little. Hope to work it in at the machine shop next week

Well, the cnc lathe isn't gonna free up anytime soon so I'm taking a stab at free handing it:eek:

Update..some good ,some bad

So I got the knob polished up and off the lathe. On the lathe I had it mounted to some 3/8 16 all- thread, then I threaded the all- thread and knob into a 1" aluminum bushing which had a threaded thru hole..all mounted in the lathe collet.(should have took a pic of that but you can see the alum bushing a little in the previous pic). I had to do that because with the knob block mounted to the collet with all-thread only, every time it took a cut the chatter was ridiculous :frusty: .I used the 3/8 all-thread because no metric all -thread or metric long bolts were available..So anyways the not so good first..So I had a 3/8 16 thread in there and I needed it to be a 12m x1.25. They were very close in size so I thought I would just hold the partly finished knob with my hand and take the metric tap size drill in a cordless and open it up:tsk::headbonk:..Nope you can't hold something that size by hand a drill it too successfully, but I finally progressed through the drill sizes till it was ready for the metric tap. Then I bare handed it and run my metric tap in and out in little increments:frusty:..Finished!:headbang:..So I take it to the car and screw it on and it goes on nicely...except I can't achieve reverse:eyebulge::frusty: .It appears the pocket I cut while it was in block form need an eXtra deep channel cut into it because I could not lift my reverse collar up far enough to get that gear....So a week later and the purchase of a John Deere heavy equipment bolt I was able to go back and rework the knob:clap2: ..here's the pics

Now the good..Anyways, its a fully functioning shift knob now but is sitting a little taller than it should(deeper thread next time)...I didn't get the effect out of my pins I hoped for. They needed to be moved outward and upward about 1/4". It would have had a shooting star effect if I done so. I will take it back in to work this week to see how many grams she weighs..If I make another it will be more simpler to do. Plus I have a few tools ready to go..thanks for following me on this adventure:p
