Thoughts on shell 91 vs. husky 94 (which has up to 10% ethanol). I am tuned right now for husky 94, but will work with 91 as well.

Might just give the shell a try and see if I notice any difference.

Hmmm I don't see how a 94 tune would work on 91.

Even if most people see ethanol as a bad thing it's still an octane booster and the presence of ethanol isn't a sign of bad quality gas. It's simply increases consumption slightly and can cause problems in high concentration (>15%) if you are not tuned for it.

If husky and Shell have different refineries if your area, Shell will usually have higher quality gas, but you will still need to get a 91 tune so you don't get knock.

I talked to lund about going down to 91. Said it would be fine (but I can't go any lower)

To quote Jon Lund:

"We set the tunes up to retain OEM adaptive octane logic so it uses the knock sensors to advance timing from our base timing, which is safe on 91 (nothing less though)."

If I decided to stick with the 91, I'd probably get them to give me another tune with their base timing set with 91 in mind.

I'm not sure if it was in my head or not, but I distinctly remember feeling a bit of a power loss when I went from shell 91 to husky 94 in my old 135i. I ended up getting a tune for the 94 and never thought to give the 91 another go.

FWIW, Shell 91 has no Ethanol. I'd choose no Ethanol for non-forced induction engines every time. Ethanol is great for turbos and SC though since it has some cooling properties. Ethanol isn't inherently bad, but I just prefer old-school straight highly refined gas for my ride. Call me old-fashioned. lol

Your from the BC area, why dont you fill Chevron 94. That has no ethanol either.

Fair enough, I'm more accustomed to the AP on the Ecoboost and tuning for a certain octane and going quite aggressive on the knock sensors.
