I had a 6R80 build done by a very reputable shop in April. They used one of their cores since mine had completely fragged the forward planetary.

Everything seemed to work well through out the summer. Maybe a couple small oddities during the last month or so, but nothing that concerned me. Well.... About 5 weeks ago, I noticed a flare during a partial throttle upshift just granny driving to the store 6 miles away. After coming out of the store, I put it in D, and it just revved. Got it home and started testing/diagnosing what I could, and came to the conclusion it had to have been the valve body/solenoid. MANY agreed. Called the shop that I purchased the transmission from, and requested they send me a new leadframe/valvebody. They did. It didn't cure the issue. Did some more diagnosis, and data was showing a large line pressure loss. At this point, a good friend (lots of tranny knowledge) and I decided we are going to pull it, and go through the entire thing to see what happened.

We found just 1 of the stator support shaft rings had been grinding away. The other one next to it was perfect. Both are supposed to be the same thickness and width. End lock broken/ground off. Oddest thing to happen (These rings generally never wear and go the life of the transmission), and most of the tranny guru specialists I've spoken with say 99% chance it could only happen on final installation when pushing/bolting the pump down. I even had a few say they themselves have broken a few.

Anyway. New pump, A drum, clutches, etc are coming this week. Should be back together this weekend.

Here's a few pictures.

Are these teflon like a 4L80e? On mine they did not lock together like that though, they are 1 piece.

On my trans you have to slide them the over the shaft which opens them up. We use hose clamps to squeeze them back down and let it sit overnight.

I will find out in the next few weeks how it went.
