What about doing 275s on an 8.5" wheel?

Well stock comes with 255/40/19 but I wanted to go a little wider. What do you think of 265/40/19?

If you'd like but I'd rather say stick to the 255 for the wheels you have now and then upgrade to wider wheels and tires later

I have grown fond of my stock wheels but I too would like some wider tires. I am currently exploring the process of buying another set of stock wheels and having them widened to 11" and 10". I think the stock 18" wheels are the lightest wheels Ford is putting on the S550.

I think this can be done for less than $1800. My issue is figuring out the spacers I will then need to reduce the offset to workable numbers. The stock wheels are 18 x 8 +40mm. Widening a pair to 11" would give me a +78.1mm offset if my math is correct. Using a 1" spacer (which I already use) would reduce that to +52.7mm. I think that would work well on the rear of an S550. For the front I'd widen them to 10" which would give offset of +65.4mm. Again using a 1" spacer that would be reduced to a perfect +40mm offset.

Or am I all wrong???? :shrug: I'd like to have that sleeper stock look with 295/40R18 rear tires

Update on this old thread I started... I went ahead a purchased a set of 255/45x18 Firehawk Indy 500 tires to put on. Guess what - they are about the exact same width as my stock Goodyear 235 width tires, no problem whatsoever fitting them on and no more noticeable sidewall bulge than the stock tires had.

I'm no tire expert, but noticed that the stock all seasons' tread stops suddenly and squarely before getting all the way out to the sidewall shoulder, so maybe they measured the width there... while the tread on the Indy500's go all the way around the shoulder and measure all the way across. :shrug:

Anyway, I thought I would share in case some of you are converting to summer race-inspired tires with complete treads all the way across... it appears you can go up a width size or two with no worries about your wheel rim size.

Great choice on tire. Huge upgrade from the stock ASs.

Yep, already noticed that easily on the street without even trying them out that hard on corners.... huge difference that should show up on the track. I plan to go to Atlanta Motorsports in July and see what happens.
