2019 Priority Code

I recently ordered a 2019 Mustang, and the dealer assigned it a priority code of 80. I thought retail orders were meant to be from 10-19, and stock orders start at 20. Why would they place mine so far up?

That sounds like the code initially assigned when they work up an order to determine pricing with the options you want. Are you sure you don't just have an initial printout of the order and not what was actually finally submitted? I'd check again with your dealer to see what priority code they actually assigned to the order.

I signed an order form with the final build up, and it displayed 80. I'd assume this is what was submitted, since I signed it.

It appears they entered it as a stock order. In most years retail orders can lag a good month or more after stock orders after a model year change, hus stock orders can sometimes be faster. For 2019 it looks like the retail order lag will be much shorter- doesn’t mean the average dealership is aware of that fact.

Talk to your dealer about it, dont cost nothin. Do not freak out about it- lots of guys around here wear their “priority number” as some kind of badge or honor or bragging point which it ain’t. Anytime you read about someone bragging about their Priority Code understand your dealing with a nob who is totally clueless about the automotive industry.

If a dealership has no other orders in line then an 80 is the same as a 20. Thus a Priority Code 80 may be built a good month earlier for one dealership well before a Priority Code 20 at a dealership across town. The priority code only comes into play when Ford authorizes allocation for that particular dealership. Guys seem to think Ford builds all Code 20s nationwide before moving on the Code 21 etc. sorry but it dont work that way. And while sold retail orders are generally put in front of a dealerships stock orders that only applies to that specific dealership. Thus a code 60 stock order placed with dealer X may be built and shipped while dealer Y’s code 11 retail order sits unbuilt.

Ford very much has a pecking order with dealerships and allotment. If your dealership is not moving metal Ford may not grant additional builds until inventory is reduced to a level Ford feels more comfortable with.

But..... as many cry....it is a sold retail order.....guess what- car dealers LIE. Ford aint totally stupid and they do not allow a dealer to bypass internal controls under the claim of a retail order. Remember YOU are NOT ordering a car from Ford. No individual can. Ford only accepts orders from dealers.

Yep. It's probably better it's going in as a stock order since Ford will be building those first on the 2019's.

My order went in today. "Priority: 10"

I don't expect anything positive from that however. Probably will take 3-4 months to get it.... Maybe longer.

It will be a benefit. Once the regional zone manager approves cars for your dealership yours will be the first order built (for that dealership)!
