If you were wondering what it would be like to go on a major road trip in your 'Stang, I've just done it. Me and the Missus with a full bootload of luggage did France, Italy, Switzerland and the Netherlands over 2 weeks. The stats were:

Mileage: 2069
Fuel economy: 25.2 (indicated), probably 24.0 actual
Engine on: 47 hours
Average speed: 44mph
Maximum speed: 145mph (indicated) - with a long cruise at 120-140mph which ruined the fuel figure.
Approximate fuel cost: £395
Highest point: San Gottard pass, Switzerland 2106m
Lowest point: a 45 minute jam on the road to the San Gottard pass
Washes: 1 (+1 on return)
Malfunctions: 1 - driver's side puddle lamp changed from pony to more like a greyhound shape :censored:
Other S550's spotted: 2
Smiles and adoration from onlookers: unbelievable :D :p

She looks remarkably clean throughout the pictures, are you sure you didn't photoshop her in ;)!

Jokes aside, good job getting some hefty mileage under your belt matey!

Can't wait to do a similar trip in mine next year. And I am glad I ordered the same colour as you. It looks great! As a matter of interest, you say the high speed elements ruined the MPG figures. What would you have managed if you kept the speed down to about 80MPH?

Cheers mate!

Trust me, a picture tells a lot of lies :D The wax job I had done on the paint is still making it look really radiant in sun even when covered in a thick layer of grime.

I saw a black 'vert going the other way on a French Autoroute. The only other S550 I saw close up was a Race Red coupe like yours near Cologne in Germany. Two blokes in the front and nice looking blond who waved at me out of the rear window! Looked awesome (the car I mean).

Either it's that freeflow exhaust set up on yours, or...are you running on Super Unleaded?

I had one tank of unbranded fuel that really seemed to go through like water down a plughole. But I've never stayed at 70 long enough to find out what mine will do :D

Presented with the opportunity to drive a bit faster, temptation gets the better of me!

I haven't seen mine go above 20mpg yet lol
First 500 or so miles are hellish for MPG, the car just swallows fuel, I had to fillup within 5 days of owning my Ecobeast and it was doing 20mpg too... After 250 it starts to climb, and then once it's over 1000 it'll be properly evened out. Much to learn newbie ;)!

Sounds like a great trip you had Greg and good to hear the car didn't have any hiccups along the way. I would like to do a similar trip, would you mind posting a map of the rough route you took so I have a nice starting point please :)
