hi guys . are there any advantages , other than looking awesome, to larger wheels/tires? i would think the ride quality and performance would be hindered. thanks.

I've got the same question, Wimbrow. See my link below.

http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30795

I'm seriously considering Velgen VBM9s front and back. They are 255/35/20 and 275/35/20.

Hope we get some input from those who are experienced with this question.

I run the FF15s 20x10 and 20x11 wheels on my car. I personally think the car handles better and rides the same as stock since my tire height is the same as stock. My wheels and tires weigh less than the performance pack wheels and tires which took about 25lbs of rotating weight off the car. Plus they look badass! Hope that helps.

Thanks for your thoughts, Major League Infidel. Your Stang does look badass. I like it!

I've also asked Velgen a question about tire size in the link below. I'd appreciate any thoughts you might on this too.

Thanks.

Looks- fills the wheel well a lot better. I think 20's look best on the S550 of all the wheel sizes.

Tires- you ca get a lot wider tires on 19/20s than most 18s. 20s are also a more common tire size to be able to find than 19s (and sometimes cheaper in the same size as a 20). More tire width=more traction.

Weight- You can get 20s in the 23-28 pound range. The PP 19s are 35lbs and I believe the OEM 18s are 32plbs. So you can can a better look with more wheel and a much wider tire with less weight per wheel.

no because we run 20s on this car with alot of meat. this whole "20 is rough" crap is from cars with 20,25 or less series tires on a 20" wheel. there was literally zero difference in ride quality going from 19" pp to 20s to me.

Thanks, Khyber. I'm sold on the 20 inch wheels and Velgen's VMB9s are the front runner. I think the gun metal color will look great on ruby red.

I posed a question to Velgen in the thread below (post #10) about tire size.

http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30626

The Stang in Velgen's pics at the beginning of the thread are running 255/35/20s on the front and 275/35/20s on the rear and I like the width of the wheels and tires.

The set up looks significantly wider, however, than my stock PP set up, which has 255/40/19s up front and 275/40/19s in the rear. How come?

I would think being both 255s and 275s, the 19 and 20 inch tires would be essentially the same width; but maybe there's a difference b/c of the middle numbers (35 v. 40) in the set up?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts you might have.
