Amazingly, I have searched this site and google a *lot* and not found real good info on this, especially on the 2015 Mustang.

Has anyone tried wider tires on the stock 20" x 9" OEM rims?

We have 265/35 now and I'm thinking about trying wider tires in the rear. I would hope to get at least 285/35. It sounds like these fit fine on a wheel this size but there is very little info out there as to if it would fit in our wheel wells, especially with a conservative drop with Steeda or Eiboch pro's.

I'd prefer not to go down to 30 series. I'd like a wider tire that does not take away from performance and can still be used casually on a tack (circuit, not drag).

Sorry to bring back such an old thread. But this is the only post I have found regarding this topic. My car with the OEM 20" foundries is going to need new tires soon. Through searching I realized 275 width is on average cheaper than the stock 265 size.

What kind of experience did you have going with a wider than stock tire size? Is it wise going 275-35 all around?

Thanks,

Kenny

Minimal tire width for a 9" is 235. Optimal width is 245 or 255. 265 is considered maximum width.

Obviously you can physically fit a 275 or 285 but they will be stretched out of proportion leading to sub optimal performance.

If you feel the need to save a few bucks on tires then you might wanna reconsider driving a $40,000 car.
