I'd like to be able to navigate through a phone (google maps or whatever), have hands free calling without using my phone as media player of any form. I have just a sync (not sync3) system.

Unless I'm doing something wrong - I only can hear navigator through car speakers if I also listen to some sort of music - mp3s or spotify radio... otherwise there will be no gps navigation commands heard through car speakers. There will be no nav commands heard through phone speakers either....

I can only get desired behavior if I use my phone as media source and then pause the music. But then sometimes it resumes on its own.

Do I miss anything? Some setting in sync or on the phone or whenever?

What you're describing works in Sync 3, but as you indicated, I don't think it's possible with the base system (nor was it with MyFordTouch).

You should be able to hear navigation commands from your car speaker but some navigation apps you have to turn on "bluetooth" function to do that.

That's what he's saying he doesn't want to do. He wants to listen to the radio without having to have his phone on bluetooth to hear map updates. With the base sync and sync 2 that isn't possible. You must have it on bluetooth audio to here updates from any other app, including maps (though of course, you can still make and receive calls and should be able to use Siri Eyes free to activate siri).

Correct. With the base system, it won't play anything through the speakers unless you are on the bluetooth media channel (except phone calls and text messages). If the phone is connected via bluetooth, but you're listening to the radio, the directions get sent via bluetooth and never make it to the speakers.

On my Galaxy S8, I have the ability to have the maps app play through the phone speaker and not the bluetooth. I assume other phones can do the same thing?
