I was lucky to hear some details/news from an anonymous source who has a link to someone on the inside working on the development of the next GT 500. Initial target HP was a 1000 HP but has since been dialed back to 800-850 HP. Engineer's figured there would be too many issues with drivetrain holding up with the 1000 HP target. The car will be supercharged. Release is supposedly Fall 2018.

There has been magazine review of the ZL1 with 11 coolers tracking all day. But now that they are in customer hands, well...

Crazy high oil and transmission temps:
As reported.

Even with 11 coolers, the ZL1 needs an AC Delete. I would hate to see temperatures in a little traffic.

Only 80 degrees and we see 293 degree oil temps and 275 degree trans temps in 6 laps at 1:40 a lap. 2 of those were cool down laps

Are you seeing this guys? A major factor as to why the ZL1-1LE didn't get an auto. It cooks the engine and trans when drivin properly.

Good video, this is exactly what thePill warned about 18-20 months ago.

We can't use a supercharger in the GT500. The base ZL1 needed more brake/tire and a tighter structure to put the power down as well as an AC delete. The A10 cooked the LT4 so it was left out of the extreme edition.

Good stuff, even though this is a mild summer, this is still being witnessed.

Hmmm... 1k hp with a SC... that would have to be large displacement.

I'll see if I can find out about displacement. I'm pretty sure it will be 5.2L CPC instead of FPC. Current 5.0L easily reaches 727 HP with Roush charger phase II supercharge kit so 800-850HP is easily obtainable with a bit more boost and the 5.2L displacement.

Yes as 2019MY. I misread your first post. Your sources seem to be good

To make this kind of power out of an SC in assuming either a centrifugal or big twin screw.

It could just be to show that they benchmarked it for 1/4 mile times. The GT3 is gnarly fast in the 1/4.
I was thinking the exact same thing. The pics are on city streets. How do you test there? And they are so conveniently clear.

At any rate, I'm hoping for a 2019 GT500. I'd defintely trade up.

It's a road car...it still has to be good on the road. They've tested it against cars like the GT3 extensively on the track and will continue to. It still has to be a good road car, and the GT3 is an exceptional benchmark for this. Ford doesn't just parade stuff around. Believe me, if the car is going out, it has a reason, and "confusing the auto paparazzi" isn't one.

Im stunned the 5.2 could hold up to the durability testing at 800 to 850 HP. With the compression deceased to support FI, there has to be some serious PSI running thru that booger. After seeing that the specific form of FI, is unlike the competitors, has me baffled if its not turbo???
