For at least a decade I have not had a speeding ticket. For that same decade I hadn’t owned a sports car. In that time I have just nodded my head when my wife has been getting speeding tickets and taking driving school. In the 3 months I’ve owned this car I got a speeding ticket at one of those intersection cameras. I thought that was only if you ran a red light. I found out otherwise. Tonight, I’m the only car on the road. The police officer clocked me going 55 in a 45. I told him a short version of what I just covered and after awhile he came back and issued me a warning. I was so relieved. I’m glad he assessed my situation and gave me an early b day gift. Oh yeah my 11 year old son was with me. I’m not sure if that helped.

I can’t be so relaxed in this car anymore. I will have to be very focused on the speed. Right after getting pulled over tonight, I drove away real slow. I accelerated from the light as if I was driving my old Tundra. As if I was trying really hard to keep my 13.5 mpg in the truck. I quickly realized how boring that was. Driving the stang this way is a damn SIN!

The wife was quick to say, you need to trade that thing in. Ummm.....

You guys have any tips other than just slowing down on how to keep the speed down?

Get Waze and a cell phone holder. People report police and accidents. Helps me on roadtrips.

I know the area I normally drive, but I do not speed much at all. I reach the limit quickly a lot but only speed passing other traffic if I feel the need. I've never had a ticket but did get a Trooper warning in my 3.7

I'm probably not the best source of advice since I've been pulled over nine times, but I HAVE learned a few things.

Don't speed anywhere the speed limit is less than 55. It's just dumb. Generally when the limit is under 55 you're in an area that's congested, residential, or has little to no shoulder.

Don't speed in the interstate unless your field of vision is very long. Cops in my area like to sit just over the crest of a hill.

Let someone else take the fall. There is almost akways someone out there going faster. Let them be the scout. DON'T be the first or last car in a group of speeders. If there is no one going faster than you, don't speed. Stay in the right lane as much as possible.

For the most part, I only speed on the interstate and except for 4th gear bursts I keep it no higher than 78 in a 70. In areas where I know I have a good chance of seeing a cop I take it to within 5mph.

Get a radar detector. People who tell you they're useless are wrong. Waze helps as well if you live somewhere with a lot of users. I dont, but I use it anyway.

I haven't had a ticket in about three years and most of my other interactions were in my 20's, and I think a big part of that is gradually adopting the rules above.

Happy motoring. :)

I haven't had a speeding ticket in over 20 years and I do speed alot. It helps to be in a major metropolitan area (Chicago) where speed limits are mostly just good advice. I have had 2 tickets in the last 10 years. One in my S550 and one in my van. Both were for going down the center lane too far to get to the left turn lanes. And I was following other cars at the time.
We all have things we will do and things we are gun-shy over. I may run 80 on the expressway but dammit I'll sit and wait to get to the left turn lanes! :headbonk:

Cruise Control... I normally don't do more then 5 over.

Its a sports car, cops tend to focus on them regardless of speed.

I drive in a ton of 25-40 roads. I go exactly the speed limit and this car is VERY easy to cruise at those speeds. Just use 5th gear. No problem.

I leave for work at 10PM and every single night I see the same three state troopers pass me by (I've memorized their car numbers -1225, 1229 and 1232 lol). Never had an issue but seen plenty of people that ride my ass and pass me get pulled over.

Just because you have a fast car doesn't mean you need to use it all the time.

You guys have it easy across the pond. I've never seen a speed camera in the US, including on highways/motorways? They must be very rare

Countermeasures my friend! An Escort or Valentine radar detector, an Anti-Laser Priority laser jammer, and Waze in combination have saved me from tickets for over 4 years now. Just running Waze and the RD before that resulted in me getting a ticket every few months for a period of time because 90% of Ohio went to laser seemingly overnight so the laser jammers are worth their weight in gold to me!

Yes to Waze. Yes to cruise control. Also maybe check that your tire circumference is properly calibrated -- mine wasn't from the factory -- I discovered this when I flashed to FRPP Power Pack one and read the "revs per mile" setting: it was set to the standard 18" 235/50 setting, I think. I got at least one camera ticket because of this -- the trigger is right at 11 over in my area -- I got a ticket for 12 over :frusty::doh:

The nice thing about being in Texas is we can speed legally. Here, if it's less than 10% over the posted speed limit it isn't a moving violation. It's not by much, but still counts. Makes it a little more fun on 70 mph highways and 60 mph service roads.

I use cruise control a lot, even down to 30mph. I usually set it for 5 over.

My detector didn't save me when I crested a hill, and was instant-on zapped at the edge of a small town that I didn't expect (unfamiliar with the route).
