I will do that, I have used VP octanium in the past and it seems to work but the orange residue was bad enough that I could see it at the exhaust tips and it left some stains on the paint that I had to polish off.
Yea, I forgot to update that info. I did run a flex fuel tune from Lund before the Whipple. I will go back to them if I upgrade my fuel system for E85.
You would think! On that pull it went +4 knock instantly so I didn't pull the whole gear, when I looked at the log the timing stayed at 10* but I don't remember what rpm I stopped. I would have to go back and look.
I really thought that I would never see issues because we have 93 here and Whipple says their tune is set up for 91. It is really frustrating. The range is crazy I have seen as much as 20.5* of total timing all the way down to 10*.
Hey guys,
I installed my whipple earlier this year. Since install I have problems with knock. My question for you is how inconsistent is the fuel quality in your area? I started out with a station I have always used before the SC and I ended up getting +4 knock at WOT. I tried a QT station...
If memory serves me correctly, I don't think the factory balancer sits flush in the keyway. I remember cleaning a ton of the factory sealant from the inside of the balancer and the end of the keyway. Maybe I am wrong.
Has anyone actually confirmed bottoming the install bolt caused their failure? I actually made this mistake and pushed over the first couple threads on the install bolt. I was able to chase the threads and start over and install the balancer. I was super worried about it and called MMR and they...
Thanks for the input, I have been sitting around waiting on my Whipple kit to be delivered so I ended up just replaying the whole job in my head second guessing myself. I am just ready to button this thing up and go for a ride.
The initial setup is easy but once you turn the motor over the links no longer match up. I think it would take 50+ turns for the links to make a full circle. Like I was saying earlier I think I was just being parinoid about turning the motor without releasing the tensioner.
I was thinking about it and if the blue links are 180 from each other on the chain you could possibly count the number of links each blue Link has traveled from each timing mark. If they are equal it seems it would be right. You guys think that would work?
I followed this exact procedure and everything was good before I got called away. Then I came back and turned the crank over a couple times and realized the tenioner wasn't released. So I was just looking for a way to verify the timing before buttoning it up.
