I think I depressed the peddle, got the tips of the vicegrips between the coils, left the peddle up while putting pressure on vicegrips(or they push out) and when coils closed I was able to lock the vgrips Had to pre set vgrips for gap before starting process. Then I was able to wiggle spring out.

You have the right idea. I have about 350 miles on mine. I have had it up in the triple digits on the highway. But as you stated rpms were not bad due to 6 speed. Just picked up the 2019 Bullitt, In 2005 I had a GT. Which was traded in for a crew cab because I had a son who played sports.(hockey/baseball). This car is SICK! So much better than the 05'. I am truly in love with this car!
