Did someone force North American manufacturers to outsource to Asia? I would suggest the reasons are far more complex than simply "unfair trade" or "regulated socialism". Maybe start by looking closer to home.
FWIW I found mine really hard to remove (on a 2017). Almost gave up too, but eventually one side popped free. It took what seemed like too much force - I ended up figuring that if I broke something I would just pay to fix it. It ended up all good though. Good luck.
