No tools needed, push clutch in with left hand, use your right hand to pull the spring off, do not release clutch until the spring has come off.

Thanks for this thread, did as SLA recommended, push clutch in with left hand and pull spring with right hand, no tools needed. What a difference from 1-2 gear!
