Inspection means the front plate was 'attached' :
'Unfortunately' it fell off again just before the drive home and as a bonus, the roads had dried again by that...

Yeah, no wiring on the UK - although I believe it's reasonably easy to do, and that there are holes (or grommets) in the boot floor above each side, ready for the USDM cars.
