" custom cams are required a lot less than people think. Off the shelf cams are designed to increase performance and adjust what kind of power band you have, usually referring to these various versions as stages"
Except they do no add enough extra lift to take advantage of the extra CFM flow...
There are no cams in that list that go over .500 lift and not even close to .550 where I have an extra 35 cfm over .500 lift, so I'm leaving a lot of HP on the table. Generally 10cfm will make 10HP, every time I see flow numbers from ported heads if they gained an extra 20cfm they made an...
So my gen 2 heads are ported and flow incredibly well at low lifts and increased 20cfm at .500 and 30 cfm at .550 and this is before the Valve job is complete.
After looking around I have not found any cams that run even close to .550 Any input on whom I should call to discuss cams?
Right here is what I'm talking about. Peak power is 7100 ish, so shift at 7500 and you should stay just about the peak power range. I continually see guys commenting about moving the rev limiter and shifting at 8500.
When the peak power is almost always at 7200-7500 ish why does everyone want to spin it up so high?
This seems like diminishing returns. I see thread after thread and comments where everyone wants to spin it to 8500. Excluding the gt350, that is.
