  1. Do I need Battery Charger to install COBB AP V3

When flashing, everything gets shut off for you, for those that haven't tried it. The concern is that if voltage is low the flash will be unsuccessful, or corrupt, or brick the ECU, etc. Some of this comes from other platforms, but it's always good practice to have good battery voltage to be...
  2. How to determine the best intercooler for high altitude use

OP did ask a specific question you might be able to help with. The copy/paste part doesn't answer anything IMO.
  3. Catch can project

Nice! Good to see some locals on here. :)
  4. Tuned ecoboost bogs down between shifts

The 14.1 displayed is likely still stoich, though these and other newer cars can run any AFR closed loop. The dash display accounts for the stoich value given to the ecu. An aftermarket WB kit will show 14.7:1 typically at stoich regardless of actual fuel stoich, unless you reprogram it. 14.1...
  5. How to determine the best intercooler for high altitude use

Understood. Unless you're road racing the intercooler can absorb a lot of heat as a heatsink, with no airflow at all. Your concern is valid, but for typical use I wouldn't worry too much about it. As stated by someone previously, the one that transfers heat "best" at sea level is likely the best...
  6. How to determine the best intercooler for high altitude use

I agree, the selection process is the same. There's really no way to make up for the altitude with post-compressor treatment, especially if you are compressor limited as is often the case with small factory turbos. You can regain some density ratio up until the compressor limit, which will...
  7. Tuned ecoboost bogs down between shifts

Coasting in gear will trigger coasting fuel cut, or decel fuel cut. The ECU knows you're off the throttle, and moving, and cuts the injectors off completely. All EFI cars since the late 80s at least have done this, for emissions and fuel economy. It will show up on the wideband as full lean...
  8. Catch can project

Thanks guys. I definitely love me some DSMs, but especially RWD and automatic these days, so this car was an easy choice. :) I really do love these EB mustangs. Especially now that the weather is getting better and I'm back to working on it and making good progress with the tune.
  9. Catch can project

I thought I would share my catch can project for people that are interested in this sort of thing. There are kits that can be bought, but I had something else in mind for this car. These particular catch cans (JCS Fabrication) I've been using on DSMs for many years now, and I like to stick with...
  10. Ecoboost blocks

+1 for CNCWerx. He did my block last spring. FFtec internals. Machine work and assembly done by my usual guy that does all of my DSM race motors. I assembled it and swapped it in. You definitely need some specialized tools and knowledge to do this right, but it's a really fun motor to build. I'm...
  11. Does the 2.3 have a glass jaw??

Sport mode is too far in the other direction IMO, a slight tweak in the tune is a better fix. The factory sacrificed logic for economy and emissions, no doubt. But OEMs are under a lot of pressure that consumers never hear about, I don't envy them at all.
  12. Does the 2.3 have a glass jaw??

45 is annoying. Part of it depends on speed limits in your area. I set mine to ~50, so in a 45 mph limit it's solidly in 5th, and in 55+ areas is solidly in 6th. May not be the best way, but that's what I'm trying for now. Some that often drives at 50 would want to shift it to either side for...
  13. Does the 2.3 have a glass jaw??

Keep in mind that LSPI is completely random by nature, and happens very infrequently. If all of the 99.9% of the people that haven't had it yet feel the need to post that here, this is going to be a very long thread.
  14. Does the 2.3 have a glass jaw??

It's a real problem that does exist, even if it only affects <1% of people that own these cars. No harm in learning more about it. ;)
  15. Does the 2.3 have a glass jaw??

I understand why they did it, but it's still a damn shame that the pistons are so brittle. Even if the pistons and rods held up though, LSPI would still be hammering the bearings out. And it's possible that does happen to some degree, if LSPI can happen to a less catastrophic degree, one which...
  16. Catch Can PCV Fix questions

I did the same thing, wasted time trying to press in the fake tabs. One of the two broke when prying them up with the screwdriver, but I had two so I didn't care. If I did it again I'd hit it with the heat gun for a few seconds. Cold plastic is brittle.
  17. CFM Breather

In the pic with the filter off in post #42, it looks like the base is aluminum, so it should just be a matter of welding something over the top with whatever fittings you need in order to connect to your catch can of choice. Probably need to watch hood clearance as well. You can see how short...
  18. Does the 2.3 have a glass jaw??

That's a good point. Part of the DI strategy to increase fuel economy is to run stoich AFRs to the highest load possible. GDI engines by their nature should be more tolerant to this, but I still don't like it.
  19. CFM Breather

If the filter can be removed and the aluminum base modified for that, you could. I might get one and try it. I did that until recently on my Talon. Single -10 off the oil cap to the catch can.
