yes that was my experience also. I think the comments in the car's owner manual re connecting the Android phone to use its navigation and other resources might have led people to assume there was more capability than there actually is.

You have to insert the cam's usb lead into the port, then use the car's screen to navigate to the folder in the cam's storage which contains the installation file which you do the equivalent of double clicking. This then installs various aspects of the camera including lane change warning etc...
