I think the paddle shifts are too slow down-shifting in S+, but they are good to go in track mode. The rev match in S+ slows the actual shift, but it's not as prolonged in track mode.

Place that did mine used what appeared to be a rubber sanding block. He left some extra film on the bottom , maybe 1/2 inch or so, that he tucked below the felt using a flexible squeegee with a felt pad on the tip. Never removed the panels.
