Thanks for all replies i think i might have the answer, visited a friend who has his own garage and he came up with a feasible answer, starting with the `17 cars some were fitted with sport cats, which answer the question !
they both have H pipes, i specified H for the cat back and the convertible you have to buy axleback and X or H.
The general opinion seems to be no apparent reason why.
EBM`s suggestion that there could an exhaust leak could be the answer so i`m going to remove it and start again.

I have 2 mustangs, a 2016 gt 5.0 auto fastback, fitted a Roush cat back with H pipe, sounds OK, my other one a 2017 convertible also 5.0 gt with manual box I fitted the same exhaust, but it's a lot louder, any ideas on why ? how can I quieten it, I've disposed of oem back boxes and resonator ?
Nothing I'd like better but don't get out much these days, her indoors has the dreaded dementia, just finished restoring a Model A, never got to use it, had to let it go.
