Very easy to replace. If you have a good grip you can loosen the shift knob by hand. I didn't need to use a strap wrench. Tedious part took about 10 minutes getting the jam nut at the right spot to make the fine adjustments to tighten the new knob down with pattern aligned properly.

Ceramic coating is the way to go. As noted above, I lightly use a California duster too when the car looks a little dusty after a drive. And I buy a ton of microfiber towels to always have ample supply in the garage and in the trunk when cruising too.
