Are you sure you don't have the hose with the one-way check valve on the wrong side? It should be on the CAI side with the arrow pointing towards the intake manifold.

Is it connected properly

There is no need for a spring compressor if you have an impact and deep sockets. The strut mount nut can be removed while the assembly is on the car. All you need to do is jack the strut back up for reassembly and impact the but back on. Saves time doing it on the car instead of taking the strut...
