I'm still driving on summer tires here in the middle of Kansas. I'll wait till next year to get winter tires or all-seasons. If you don't drive like an idiot, the P-Zeros aren't all that bad down to 17*F if you're doing 40mph or less, or warm them up with a bit of city driving before hitting...
110 so far, on a section of 5 lane highway that was completely empty at the time (surprisingly, which is what lead to that speed). I could have gone faster, but didn't. It sure didn't feel like 110.
Yeah, I get notchy shifts too. And I agree with dwaleke, this is far from the worst shifting trans I've ever driven. I'd also agree with slightly above average. Shift firmly and you shouldn't have any problems. It gets better as you warm up the trans. It's also cold as shit where I am, so I...
Thanks for this perspective. A single failure isn't enough data to start a panic yet. For those of you who are worried. The best thing to do would be to drive your car until it breaks and then get it repaired under warranty. That's what it's for. If it's going to break, best to break it...
Thanks! This is probably the most agreeable disagreement I've had on the internet in a decade.
That said, I do understand your perspective. My years of wrenching on and driving older noisy gearboxes has probably hardened me to these things. To me, it just sounds like a regular RWD manual...
The GT base is $32,100 MSRP. What you paid is a function of what options you added to the basic car. You are not paying for a $40k+ basic car. I also have a $40k GT, but that's because I added enough options on top of a $32k car.
Plus, the rest of the drivetrain (minus the engine) and body...
You have an american RWD performance car with a manual transmission designed to sell for less than 33k and you're whining about a little synchro feedback... :headbonk::shrug:
Awesome. I only managed a bit over 1000 miles in roughly the same time. It's really impressive how easily the Coyote goes from sedate and composed to snarling beast. I love it. And yeah, I got the 68B, it adds a really nice touch to the interior.
Probably that he'd get tired of driving such an ostentatious color around all the time. Bollocks! I smile like an idiot every time I walk up to my CO/GT.
Having dealt with earlier Ford slave cylinder and TOB designs, I googled the slave cylinder for the mustang, and it's the same basic design they've used for about 20+ years now (upgraded over the years though). The slave cylinder is concentric with the input shaft of the transmission, with the...
The only place there should be backlash is in the rear diff (ring and pinion). There should not be extra "backlash" in the driveshaft. That's called a broken u-joint.
 Without examining the design differences between the synchro hub assemblies, I won't even begin to formulate a theory as to why it doesn't do it in all gears.
I think your shifting and whine noise are normal. Mine makes the same noises, and is what I'd consider smooth shifting.
I will chime in on your T/O bearing noise though. It sounds like the input shaft actually, being spun back up when you let the clutch out, and slowing down when you push the...
