There's no need to remove the pony if you are only worried about the amount of sticking surface (the 3m adhesive will hold it on great). Removing the pony will probably allow it to sit just slightly lower into the recessed area, but also harder to remove if you ever want it off.
Tim Beith...
If you are talking to me, they came from the UK. [email protected] or https://www.facebook.com/munchmst/
I have two sets - one in the trunk for show, and one I use daily. They get worn in fairly quickly, but still good quality.
I threw orange on mine (surprised, right?) and it seems to be holding up very well. I'd recommend to anyone looking to give one or both of their keys a different look.
Like most people, I went with Tim Beith. I covered my last car in carbon fiber and alcantara, so I'm a bit sick of it. Tim was kind enough to make a flat top/bottom, orange stiching, and smooth leather all around.
Sits just fine. It also comes off fairly easy (I used regular isopropal alcohol- denatured would work better- and dental floss to remove). I originally had the badge in the silver/black like most people had, but I got another one in orange and swapped them.
FYI, if you want the orange tow hook to work with this plate holder, you will have to do a little extra work, as it has different threads than the plate holder, but ZL1 was awesome and got me the parts I needed to make it work. I'd recommend reaching out to their customer service before ordering.
The exact same thing happened to me (Roush hood struts), but I didn't have my magnetic extension with me. I started to take the fender off when I decided to give the old metal coat hanger a try. Got it on the first try.
I've been really bad about posting all the updates, but here's one I actually did..yesterday.
Steeda clutch spring/perch. It wasn't the game-changer I'd hoped it would be, but it's a definite improvement. I'm guessing you can save $60 and just get the spring, and skip the perch.
The tow hook that works with the plate holder only comes in red or black, but they have another tow hook (https://zl1addons.com/products/mustang-mach-1-premium-stealth-tow-hook) that comes in a few other colors, but uses a slightly different bolt/thread than the plate holder. I was able to work...
Corsa HH Pipe and I'm about as close to regretting it as you can get. Nothing wrong with the Corsa HH pipe, I just think I preferred the stock resonator more.
I'd push back on taking off the decals for PPF. Mine has full PPF (STEK) and initially my installer talked about removing the decals (and badges), but after some research (plenty of videos on youtube), we agreed to leave them on and there are absolutely zero issues.
