Mine was a metal on metal "Tink or Clink" like 2 pieces of metal hitting together. It would happen everytime the wheel changed direction, when I gave it gas. Just once or twice a sharp metal "Tink, Tink" then nothing until I put the car in the opposite direction, then gave it gas. I hope this helps.
I installed a new wheel bearing, thrust washer, and axle nut today. The old thrust washer was very flimsy, the new one was way thicker. I do think this was the source of the noise. The car is now fixed...... I hope it lasts
Has the noise returned? Does anyone know the part# or correct name for this washer/friction lock? My drivers rear wheel is making the same noise again. I ordered a new wheel bearing and spindle nut and plan on replacing them this weekend.
No, they did not ask anything about previous nut removal. There response was that nothing failed on the car, it was just a noise / rattle. I will have to call costumer service to further dispute the charge. That be said my car is back and the noise is gone. The dealership seem to be on my side...
My car is at the shop for exactly the same metal clicking noise! They just called to say that the rear axle nut was loose. (Driver side). I expect Ford to cover this under the 60K powertrain warranty, but they are trying to deny it because no parts were replaced. My 2015 Mustang has 28K...
