Depends on the type of racing.
Drag - Def get auto
Auto-x and road - MT-82
I had way too many issues with the manual trans in my 2011. First one failed at 3k miles, second one was notchy and noisy. I then swapped the car to a 6R80 and was much more happy. I will surely be getting the auto.
When I talked to the Ford rep from Detroit at barrett-jackson last weekend, he said ordering wouldnt occur until "summer". Many others have started hearing this as well.
I dont consider May summer and think we are looking at the end of June into July
Yeap. Remember, we are essentially getting a boss motor now which has proven to hold 750 just fine.
Even my regular coyote has been holding 725rwhp (now 760 rwhp) with likely over 100 track passes. Its all about TUNING with these motors. But again, shit happens, if you dont wanna risk it...
Take about $2500 off sticker of the GT Premium is what x-plan should get you.
The way dealers are trying to get rid of 2014s, they will all crush x-plan. I am seeing 42k MSRP 2014s advertised for $34-35k
Talked to Ford yesterday at Barrett Jackson and they said ordering opens during the summer as well.
He also didn't deny there is more aluminum on the cars then just the front end....and just smiled
MT82 is the manual from 2011+ and will be in 2015. 6R80 is the Auto
There is nothing bad about the auto it's a beast and can handle up to 1000hp with no work. You just gotta spend $1000 on a good converter to have the most fun in an automatic
I had both, I prefer the auto. The 6R80 auto is more reliable, can handle a ton more power, and is consistent at the track. The MT-82 is a notchy tempermental trans that I found no joy in driving, even after my first one broke and they replaced it.
No one said its super special, but if you plan to be one of the early people ordering, it is nice to have right off the bat instead of the dealer trying to make you pay sticker.
