Yeah I'm burning close to 1 qt every 150-250mi. Also, I know the valvetrain is noisy and that's normal for these cars (same as my 16 GT) but I'm getting knock now.
I just pulled my spark plugs and this is after only being in there for 8k miles.
I also went ahead and did my front hubs as well...
Midway Mustang has had a couple priced for 42-50 I believe.
I haven't a lot of 500 drivetrains out there but there's probbaly more guys junking and selling what's left off them.
Yep, it's happened recently and I was telling myself it was pure white because I didn't want to admit that I was blowing oil.
The other time it happened, my other buddy (Ford mechanic) was driving behind me and mentioned it to me.
The good news is I planned on installing LTHs so with the motor...
My pressure gauge was bouncing all over the place prior to adding an additional 4 qts.
So usually if I'm in 3rd gear let's say and I'm cruising at 4k, it'll stay around 100 psi.
Under the same conditions, it would jump all around between 25-100 and not hold a steady pressure
For a noisy valvetrain, it really sounds like shit here.
I let the car warm up to idling temps to check the oil. I'm still a full qt shy and now it sounds a spun bearing.
Monday can't come soon enough for my test.
I don't want to say you're not or you are.
I drive the car like I stole it every time I'm in it. So I take it with a grain of salt that I'll use more oil and to monitor closely.
It's one to have to add an extra qt every 500-1000mi. I can't make it a full 3k between oil changes without adding 4...
He definitely will. He's the head mechanic there and I've hung around the shop a lot. All goods guys there.
I went there for my last oil change as I was slammed with OT and didn't have time to do it.
And right at 2k miles I'm adding 4qts since my visit.
I'm texting my buddy now and we're gonna start the tests Monday morning. They're booked out until October but he's gonna sneak me in for an oil change so we can get the process started.
I guess I have to go back ever 1000 miles to reassess
Yeah I'm not expecting anything crazy. I just want some reassurance that's me pushing the car hard vs the engine shitting out.
This is also part of the reason why I wanted to do a built short block. Just added reassurance. Granted it's a race engine and it could crap out whenever.
I'll just cut the zip tie and write bad with a backwards 'B' on the dip stick.
Seriously though. I'm not looking to get the engine replaced if it's not necessary. I just noticed an increase in additional qts and it was concerning.
I should be alright though. I'm buddy's with the shop foreman...
Unless my math is wonky, 1 qt per 500mi should be 5k for all 10qts and a warranted oil change.
I typically add 1-2 qts before 3k miles (when I typically change oil) but I just had to add 3 qts to top up at 2k miles since my last oil change.
It's an increase for what's normal for me and I drive...
I just cracked 19k miles on my 2017 GT350 and I'm beginning to think I'm burning oil like crazy.
I usually go 3k miles between oil changes. Sure, I could wait. But I'm rough on my car regularly (racing, etc). In the past, I've had to add a qt between changes which I assumed was normal given...
I dailyed mine all last year (in MA; through the winter). That includes, racing, burnouts/donuts, highway/city miles.
It's completely doable and a necessity. IMO it's a complete waste to let these cars sit inside a garage only to creep out on sunny days and for car shows.
Just watch your...
I've driven the Saleen on the right. Built bottom end; bored to 347 with LTH. Just an animal
The Orange fox has a 363, Shorty Heads and a Procharger. A vulgar display of power.
The Black Cobra is pushing close to 500 at the wheels along with some other goodies.
I've had as much fun in that...
Chased down an issue with my front bumper. I thought I bottomed out hard and busted a tab.
Instead, Ford skipped a rivet/nut when installing my front bumper 🙄
All good now. Plus, it was a good time to check my wheels and re-torque them.
I ordered a set of PS4S back in May from Tire Rack because they were (at that point) going on 2 months of not having the 295/35/19 MPSS in stock.
Are you on stock wheels?
After reading that Microsoft acquired Bethesda, my wife and I both said we need to build towers. Of course, this was in the middle of the GPU price gouging thing so we hit up microcenter.
Walked away with a pretty solid prebuilt tower with a 1660 Super and I5 and we can comfortably run Fallout...
