  1. What are you getting with your oil life monitors?

My OLM indicated 16% at the first change (dealer changed at 5,600 miles when I bought the car slightly used with that mileage on it). So it probably would been about 5% at 6,000 miles. After that it's usually 50~55% when I change it at 5k. I do quite a bit of extended high RPM. About 20 minutes...
  2. Anyone changed there oil to 5w30 and encounter a problem, failure or any weird noises?

Seems like CeraTek, TriboTEX or Archoil are the only solutions that help with the BBQ somewhat consistently. But I think a few people didn't have complete relief even with those. Check out the "What oil do you use?" thread, I posted some interesting information on PUP 5W-30 vs. MC Semi-Syn...
  3. What oil do you use?

BTW take a look at this: https://www.castlepumps.com/info-hub/positive-displacement-vs-centrifugal-pumps Gerotor pumps are positive displacement. They are relatively unaffected by viscosity in terms of flow rates because your mechanically forcing the fluid through the passages. You will flow...
  4. What oil do you use?

LSPI is only an issue on TDI or possibly Super Charged engines trying to run a lot of boost down low under heavy loads where dwell times (due to low RPM) are high as is heat and fuel volatility. It's not an issue even in high compression NA engines. I did some very substantial R&D on the issue...
  5. BBQ Tick After Oil Change...

US 2018's call for 5W-20 for street and 5W-30 for track use. I'll bet your UK version also calls for 5W-30 for track and 5W-20 for street also if you look carefully at the manual's fluid capacity section. 2015-2017 Aussie GT's originally called for 5W-20, then they changed the user manual and...
  6. What oil do you use?

I did an experiment and found the following for my 2016 PP GT: 5W-20 MC Semi-Syn (old formula) from 0 to 5,600 miles. Factory fill. FL-500S Filter. I did NOT own the car during that time as I bought it Factory Recertified at 5,600 miles with a 100k extended power train warranty. Stock Tune...
  7. Anyone changed there oil to 5w30 and encounter a problem, failure or any weird noises?

Didn't you say you had issues with the BBQ tick getting louder with 5W-30? Why go to 30 if your concern is the noise? 20 and 30 are pretty darn close and a good synthetic 20 will be more than enough even for hard street use. I'd agree for HPDE at least a 30 weight if your not running an Air to...
  8. 2015-17 Mustang GT Ford Performance Power Packs

Without doing the specific analysis as was done above, this is what I've been saying all along. Ford Performance Power Packs ARE factory hot tunes that make the most of the hardware changes in combination with upgraded minimum fuel octane. It will be really interesting to see what they can wring...
  9. Is the Ford Performance Track Pack Really Worth It?

BTW the spring rates data etc. at the bottom I did not enter the mustang data. It's not part of the roll couple calculations or ride frequency calculations. It's just there to calculation that specific aspect as a stand alone variable. So it doesn't affect my roll couple calculations. Bar rates...
  10. Is the Ford Performance Track Pack Really Worth It?

No, the data for the bump stops is a case of "I have no clue", so I left it. I didn't care about roll resistance on the bump stops has I haven't gotten the car to lean that much. If anyone has them, please share. I'm running the Ford Performance shortened versions for their lowering kits.
  11. BBQ Tick After Oil Change...

Cam-phasor response speed IS affected by oil viscosity however, I did some extensive R on the Borg Warner CTA system and more common vane style phasors. Small viscosity changes aren't a problem, but large jumps do cause them to fill and bleed slowly, so the phasor can't advance or retard as fast...
  12. BBQ Tick After Oil Change...

We are in agreement on this. I haven't found anything else that seems likely to cause that. It also makes sense why temperature affects many of the 5.0's as does Ceratek / TriboTEX / Archoil as well as oil viscosity. There are quite a few reports of it "quieting down" after hard driving as well...
  13. Is the Ford Performance Track Pack Really Worth It?

I know, I post excessively. But I don't like leaving out important details . Drives me bonkers :headbang: for some reason, I guess that's why I became an Electrical Engineer, because I"m excessively anal on details and love to tap into the potential of things and create new designs...
  14. 2015-17 Mustang GT Ford Performance Power Packs

Some data tools you may really like, see attached. Keep in mind I did a lot of comparisons with the GT350, Performance Package Level 2 and Camaro SS 1LE in my data tools, so you'll see quite a few references there as both are the top handling Pony cars for track applications and no slouches in...
  15. Is the Ford Performance Track Pack Really Worth It?

While I haven't tried the SP083 / FP Track damper combination yet, some food for thought (my next upgrade): GT350R Track Pack Spring Rates: 240 lbs-in Front, 920 lbs-in Rear, F/R Ratio is 0.261 SP083 Spring Rates: 250 lbs-in Front, 980 lbs-in Rear, F/R Ratio is 0.255 Darn those are close! FP...
  16. BBQ Tick After Oil Change...

Also I think I figured out why the differences in oil viscosity year to year and generation to generation. 2011-2014 S197 (1st Gen 5.0 and Road Runner 5.0) Standard GT - Ford Spec 5W-20: NO oil cooler. ECU has management mechanisms build in to limit torque then the oil gets too hot to protect...
  17. BBQ Tick After Oil Change...

Something interesting: shop manual rod to bearing clearance range is 0.0011 to 0.0027 for the 2015-2018 5.0 (that's what my manual says). Ford Performance lists the Aluminator 5.2L Voodoo (580 HP, 445 ft-lbs) with the same 0.0011 to 0.0027 rod to bearing clearance range. They also list both...
  18. 2015-17 Mustang GT Ford Performance Power Packs

For tire sizing, it all depends on your wheel size. General rule of thumb is run a tire whose MEASURED TREAD WIDTH is the same or 0.5" LESS than the rim width for optimized handling. Also, running a stickier compound at the same size tire will typically out perform running a wider tire of the...
  19. 2015-17 Mustang GT Ford Performance Power Packs

Another side note, the roll center and bump steer correction for lowering springs also improves tire wear. I get less inside shoulder wear with a proper roll center (optimizes tire contact as the suspension swings through it's arcs). Alignment Settings (mostly BMR spec): Front Toe: +1/16th...
  20. 2015-17 Mustang GT Ford Performance Power Packs

Bumper removal is probably more intimidating than difficult and not as difficult as it sounds. Step 1 - remove the 5 push pins in the fender well cover, three are in front near the bottom outer edge, one is up top close to the strut, on is on the inside edge by the brake line. Peel back the...
