Let me guess.. these leaked specs will now make you purchase a now- antiquated 2014 that is 50-100lbs lighter but has less power, less features, less comfort, brake dive, terrible weight balance, for what, $1500 difference?
......
Didn't think so.
Naysayers dismissing a car on paper is ridiculous. Cars don't get driven on paper. Guys I know on the program were right about the weight and they will be right about this car being heads and tails in overall performance and how well it drives.
Can you really say any of that for sure? It is all guesses based on some pictures that do not tell the whole story.
From what I know weight was gained not with extra mass, but in heavier materials (high strength steel). I dont know the percentages used but I suspect it was substantial in...
They do that kind of testing with every new platform. If they never saw the logic in it, and if new platform development were only ever about weight loss, we would still be stuck with a first-gen Falcon-based platform.
The focus has always been about better performance and a better platform...
Unfortunately I do not know this. I am also curious where the weight was added but more standard features and equipment, IRS and more stringent safety regulations was as specific as I was told. I will try to find out but as reluctant as people are to talk about this, I doubt I will get much...
Ford has a very deliberate plan to create buzz for this car and releasing info that some will perceive to be a disappointment is going to overshadow any of those efforts. There is simply no compelling reason for them to release it yet. They are still selling 2014s and people are pre-ordering...
I assume that was meant for me. thePill, let's revisit this post when the numbers are released and see who was misleading people. Between the two of us there is only one person basing it off of any information from people who actually know the weight. We'll find out soon.
That 2010 interview should be destroyed. The original design plans changed after this and and all the concerns Dave listed about "putting the weight back in" after taking some weight out has in fact come true. All the standard creature comforts and safety regulations caught up to the weight shed...
I'm not telling anyone to not be upset. But a bunch of armchair engineers blaming Dave Pericak for aspirational comments he made in 2010, before development was fully underway, is silly.
You do realize some members of this forum actually do know, right? Not everyone is working off of what Steeda said or anything released in the media, but actual first hand knowledge.
You call it rampant pessimism, I call it reality. I have never been pessimistic about this car and I have heard...
I read just fine, just not with the added color you are reading into it.
"It's in our sights".... in 2010. 3-4 years before production parts were being built. Okay. Go ahead and crucify the chief engineer for that comment, I don't care. It won't change a thing and rational minds know not to...
Are you guys serious? This was in the infancy of the program. He was talking about aspirational goals. Every manufacturer, every year, wants to shed weight. He did not say "Yes, the S550 has lost weight" and he would have had no way of knowing that since the car was not even fully designed.
He...
You don't have to accept it. Just like there were many doubters and conspiracy theorists when the track photos were leaked. Believe what you want but know that you are setting yourself (and probably others who flock towards popular opinion) up for further disappointment. A few of us with good...
