Easy mistake to make!
Vorshlag has forgotten more about race Mustang setup than most of us will ever know, and Terry's just a terrific guy. I trust him as I would the word of God :hail:
+1 on the Mobil Extended Performance for street use. Regular Mobil 1 is just OK these days, but the addpack on that EP stuff is terrific, and you can always get jugs of it cheap at Wallyworld or when AutoZone does those "Buy a jug and a Mobil 1 filter for $3x.xx".
There was some chatter and a fitment thread on - well, another Mustang forum. While I can't post links to other forums here, you can definitely find these, with pics, from a Google search.
Also showed how you could file down the specific part of the 6-pot that rubbed and just repaint...
Enkei PF01's in 18x9.5 have tons of caliper clearance, offsets of +15, +35 and +45, and weigh in at 20 lbs. Very strong, very light. They have been a track favorite for a long time and are worth a look.
While not on a Mustang, I use these as my general A/S street tire on my EVO X, when I run that car on the street. Best A/S tire I've ever run. Ignores rain altogether, shocking level of sticky in the dry, and does really well in snow and slush. VERY cost-effective, too. Recently bought a set...
All makes sense now, thanks!
Looking over the product line, it seems to follow the same basic heart of the lineup as Carbotech of old. I'm guessing if I got R12/10's for my Boss, that'd be right around what I was used to out of XP12/10's - would you say that's a fair assessment?
You might be a bit too worried about turbo lag and onset, which any competent road course tuner can eliminate. Never was a problem for me in my EVO even at 28 lbs of boost, largely thank to the road race tune. But I don't want to dissuade you. While you are choosing the hard road here, I'm...
This man is correct. A lot of the "feel" described in this thread is more the pad than the caliper. With the right pad, brake lines, fluid, and master cylinder, you can achieve any feel you wish.
What I have seen with some of my Time Trial friends is the Brembos warping from heat cycles...
Good deal - if you are working with builders who can speak to that, you know more than I do about the 15+ Coyotes. If the journaling matches, then there is no good reason not to run 50 weight on the track with these cars.
Mileage aside, probably not a bad idea to think heavier for street...
You aren't going to find good track and street pads, at least not in the way any trackrat would define "good".
Watch out for drilled rotors, by the way - some race organizations won't let you run with them due to structural integrity issues. They look pretty, but that's about it. Look at any...
Might have missed something, but - are you competing? Are you winning tire comps for placing? Or is it funsies and you are wealthy?
If nobody is paying for your tires, get Hoosiers and Toyos out of the mix ASAP. NT01 is hard to go wrong with, but the Maxxis RC-01 is also probably worth a...
Right - so, part of the story, but not all. What I don't know is the oil journaling on these 15+ motors, ands that's a key factor. Could I recommend the same oil I run in the Boss? I don't know. But I place more faith in true synth race oil blends and additives than I do in pure weight...
While I wouldn't bounce off the rev limiter (or FUN limiter) too much, the 15+ 5.0 Coyote has many of the same internals as my Boss 302, which plays all day at 7800 RPM. Your car is designed to run, son - let 'er go :-)
You can make anything *work* with enough time and money. But turbos are proven more efficient in the long run. SC's are great for grunt out of the hole, but that's not really road course work, is it? You're not gearing up for small bursts, you are gearing up for 30+ minute sessions at high...
Weight adds protection but also heat, unless your engine is specifically designed with journals to support the weight. My Boss 302 has the oil journals to support 50 weight under any conditions, but regular Coyotes don't.
Having said that - I always used Redline Race Oils and changed after...
Hi - new here, because I'm about to pull the trigger on an S550, but I love track talk.
Not sure if it helps or is appropriate, but I have some times in my 2012 Boss 302 on some of these. Car is stock as a box of rocks except for Carbotech XP12/10 pads and a GT500 Wing with Gurney Flap - car...
