So I picked up my new 2016 Mustang V6 last Monday from the dealer, after it came off the Ford truck. It was brand new with 10 miles. I paid the dealer for tint, and they contract it out. I had it scheduled for today. I took the day off from work, drove an hour and a half, and got there for 8:30am. The tint guy asked how dark I wanted it, and I said as dark as I am allowed. He drove it around back to work on it and brought it back out front at 11am, and said it was all set. As I had plans to go to Disney with my daughter, I didn't do a thorough inspection, as I knew the tint had to cure for a few days in the sun, but after driving on the way home I could see scratches on the window. I was annoyed, but knew the tint could always be redone (my fingertip could easily feel the scratches in the tint on the inside).
When I got home I let the wife know, and she took a look. She noticed besides that issue, the OUTSIDE of the window was also scratched. I'm assuming he didn't use a protective layer or used a dull razor or something, when he did a trim of the tint before installing on the inside. Also, the hand trimming on the tint is very jagged, and there is a sizable gap on the front windows at the edge where it closes doesn't have a gasket or anything on the side so it's quite noticeable.
Obviously my biggest issue is the scratched windows. I called the dealer, and they wanted me to work with my sales guy, who was off today. I called back and asked for a manager, and told me he will get with my sales guy. I called back again, and was told they will have the place who did the work call me. I got a call, and explained the issue, and was told she doesn't think they cut it on the outside, and never had a scratched window before. She told me to take it in on Friday, which I am going to do (another day off from work, since this place is 8:30-3, Monday-Friday, and an hour and a half from my house). Hopefully they can resolve but I'm not sure how confident I am with them. I've had all of my cars tinted and never had an issue before at other places.
The reason why I involved the dealer is I didn't pay the contractor, I paid the dealer. It was their responsibility to provide window tint to me. Not a great start to the upcoming Holiday.
The first picture you can see the jagged edges, and how it has a sizable gap, and the second picture shows one of the scratched windows (the long line, which is easily felt with a fingernail).
