So I picked up my new 2016 Mustang V6 last Monday from the dealer, after it came off the Ford truck. It was brand new with 10 miles. I paid the dealer for tint, and they contract it out. I had it scheduled for today. I took the day off from work, drove an hour and a half, and got there for 8:30am. The tint guy asked how dark I wanted it, and I said as dark as I am allowed. He drove it around back to work on it and brought it back out front at 11am, and said it was all set. As I had plans to go to Disney with my daughter, I didn't do a thorough inspection, as I knew the tint had to cure for a few days in the sun, but after driving on the way home I could see scratches on the window. I was annoyed, but knew the tint could always be redone (my fingertip could easily feel the scratches in the tint on the inside).

When I got home I let the wife know, and she took a look. She noticed besides that issue, the OUTSIDE of the window was also scratched. I'm assuming he didn't use a protective layer or used a dull razor or something, when he did a trim of the tint before installing on the inside. Also, the hand trimming on the tint is very jagged, and there is a sizable gap on the front windows at the edge where it closes doesn't have a gasket or anything on the side so it's quite noticeable.

Obviously my biggest issue is the scratched windows. I called the dealer, and they wanted me to work with my sales guy, who was off today. I called back and asked for a manager, and told me he will get with my sales guy. I called back again, and was told they will have the place who did the work call me. I got a call, and explained the issue, and was told she doesn't think they cut it on the outside, and never had a scratched window before. She told me to take it in on Friday, which I am going to do (another day off from work, since this place is 8:30-3, Monday-Friday, and an hour and a half from my house). Hopefully they can resolve but I'm not sure how confident I am with them. I've had all of my cars tinted and never had an issue before at other places.

The reason why I involved the dealer is I didn't pay the contractor, I paid the dealer. It was their responsibility to provide window tint to me. Not a great start to the upcoming Holiday.

The first picture you can see the jagged edges, and how it has a sizable gap, and the second picture shows one of the scratched windows (the long line, which is easily felt with a fingernail).

What a crap job that it - totally sucks azzzzzzzz !! Looks like he rushed thru, thought he could freehand that radius (few can) & cut the pieces on the outside of the window.

Hope it's not the same guys who did my car @ Elder today :paddle:

Wow, that's an amateur job at best. Sorry to read this, I feel your pain. Mine got the bumper clipped in a parking lot tonight and I park in no man's land.

The tint can be re done and if the car needs a new piece of glass they can do that as well, so there is a resolution that could make everything all right minus a little inconvenience. Go get em!

Sorry to hear about this. The tint company sucks big time. I wouldn't want them touching my car after that fiasco. I would make the dealership pay for another tint company of my choosing. Hopefully the scratch can be polished out if not replaced.

That reminds me that I should pull off my interior panels around the windows before bringing it in for window tint.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Glad to know others think this job isn't the norm. I'll update everyone after I visit the place again tomorrow. I'd prefer not to go through them again but the dealer wants me to work it out with them for resolution. If they don't resolve to my satisfaction I'll go straight to the dealer and make sure they resolve.

Does anyone have pictures of their front windows tinted showing no or limited gap since it's frame-less? I don't like the huge gap that shows when the door is closed and was going to show how it "should" be.

Here's my wife's Infiniti, Llumar tint done by dealer in Orlando. You can't run it right out to the edge, there's maybe an 1/8" - 1/4" gap.

As long as the cuts are clean I wouldn't even mind a small gap. From reading online though the frameless setups are "supposed" to have approx 1/16" gap, and no more than 1/8". Although this is just guidelines on the Web haha. I've Googled some pics of the s550 with no gap at all from some tint shops but that's prob the minority. In all reality it's not the gap that bugs me but the jagged cuts (plus the scratched tint and scratched windows ofcourse haha)

Sorry to see this as well.

I think this speaks to a more general issue with tint, PPF, paint coating installers. My wife and I hope to get out 2016 GT PP white vert by 2 Dec and have already told the dealer no thanks to any of their tint, PPF, sealant offerings. The sales guy gave me the number of the PPF guy they use and he has yet to return my call which tells me all I need to know.

During research.*I found a very reputable company who does Xpel and Modesta (others - less expensive too) very near me who the high end exotic owners only trust. I have seen his work and it is breathtaking - and breathtaking expensive too.

The point is - and this is NOT a dig at the OP - is unless you know the dealer's contractors work then don't bother unless you can see their work.

The old adage of you get what you pay for may apply - certainly on the cheap end. Now on the high end you can pay a lot for more than you might need - which is part of my struggle at the moment.

It's going to be a bit of a PITA but in the end she'll be like new - with good tint - after you work a bit at it.

I have a great shop for detailing and CQuartz if you're interested. They were doing a Maserati after mine was finished. Very reputable and their prices are very modest for the quality of their work. Check out Street Dynamics in Margate, Shawn and Dan are excellent detailers and they also do amazing wraps. They also do mobile detailing, two bucket method, they come out to my work every week. They did my CQuartz coating and I couldn't be happier.

Are you talking about Pinpoint Precision in Coral Springs? He's very overpriced. I do agree that you get what you pay for but some people are a bit overpriced. I'm sure he does great work but $1800 for a coating is ridiculous.

I agree. Lesson learned. I did pay $200 which is the norm in my area but I'll never get tint through a dealer again unless I know the work their guy does.

That is a rather poor job. Looks like the tint was not properly cut.

Why on earth would anyone hand cut tint these days? Computer cuts are always clean and usually the gap is minimal.
