Two questions:
1- with all the talk about how is ford going to counter the release of the camaro; is there any word to if they are going to be releasing a 302 or mach 1?
2- why do so many people think ford needs to keep up with camaro? For YEARS the mustang under preformed and out sold the camaro. 2002 being a great example, The camaro temporarily went extinct even though the mustang was a joke performance wise.

1 - The GT350 is the new Boss 302. A track biased weapon. Rumors have hinted at a new Mach 1. This started maybe a year ago when Ford renewed the copyright.

2 - This isn't 2002 any more. The Mustang isn't just competing with the Camaro. It's also competing with a host of differing cars from the likes of the Genesis coupe to the Audi A5 and BMW 4-series on a world platform. Ford needs to be relevant in that market, which means keeping on top of their game. Just as with any car these days, expect refreshes within 3 model years and potentially an all new car within 5-6 model years.

1- I was going to buy a GT350 until I heard the mark ups. It moves the price from camaro territory to corvette Z06 territory. that is why i am hoping for another special edition, otherwise I'm getting a camaro.
2- great insight, thanks for the info.
However, given that fact, why such an uproar over the camaro upping the stang?

If.......and it's a big IF........there is going to be a new Mach 1, it'll be interesting to see if it arrives for the '17 or '18MY. Current thinking is the S550's first facelift will be for the '18MY, with potentially tweaks to the Coyote as well as a new 10-speed auto.

A long shot, but I guess Ford may give us a little something to tide us over in the '17MY with an SE, so potentially a Mach 1. (think how they gave us the Bullitt for the last MY of the original S197 bodystyle) If that's the case, I'd expect to see something at the Detroit show in January 2016.

Again, this is just a hunch. Ford play their cards very close to their chest

Does ford have a 7 speed manual they could use in the mustang?
Major let down that Chevy didn't put one in the camaro.

I guess that is the impression i get from the boards and media reviews.

Some people seem to think its the end of the world if the Camaro posts better performance times than the Mustang. For me, a car is much more about how it drives and how it makes you feel, rather than pure performance figures

I figure it's click bait and trying to get attention. Everything these days is amplified 10x to get our attention. Partially because we are all so numb to information since we are overloaded with it. They upped the game in benchmark performance. It's likely to translate into real-world performance advantage, we will see. Ford seems to have targeted a GT car with more performance and comfort balance this time, Chevy concentrated on performance mainly.

I think in time Ford will respond, but it's a balance. The advantage in benchmark performance is real, but I don't think it's something that is "embarrassing" or nearly as extreme as people make it out to be. .3-.5 in the 1/4 (manual to manual) and a couple of tenths off 0-60 is an advantage but I don't think it's one Ford has to respond to immediately.

Benchmarks don't always tell the full story anyway, they are a good way to compare things but often times benchmarks show a much bigger disparity than is observed in real world use. One thing could be the brakes, benchmarks will show they perform well, but with heavy use they may fade more. Skid pad numbers may be impressive, but in the real world dynamics in road conditions and weight shifting in more dynamic courses or roads may prove that the difference is much smaller.

The 10 speed seems to be on the way for sure, which should help the auto version. A special edition should be out sometime soon most likely, maybe 17/18. Go drive what's there now and see how it treats you, if the glove fits why wait?

My thoughts as well. I don't care if the Z06 was cheaper than the GT350 I'd still much rather have a Mustang. I didn't buy my Mustang based on performance compared to other brands, I bought it because it is a Mustang.

As mentioned the performance numbers don't tell the whole story, had all of those reviews mentioned and most slam the Camaro for its horrible ergonomics, poor material quality etc... At the end of the day 99% of us live the car we buy everyday and at the end of the day the Mustang runs away with that part of it.

Another point, if the Camaro has and is going to be a bit faster in every category, why I don't I see them at the tracks more? I see 10 Mustangs to every Camaro on the track(Autocross/road course) and I think that's very telling.

And on price for the GT350, why would anyone pay over sticker? They can be had for sticker and 6 months from now they will be dwelling on dealer lots selling for invoice, patience!!

I figure that because of its limited production the mark up would stay for the life of the car unless production numbers are increased, but obviously I could be wrong.
