Ok so my car is an auto and has remote start. It won't activate the remote start when I press the button twice regardless of range (far or near). However, if I press the LOCK button first - the car locks lights etc THEN do remote start it works.

My Jeep does it by simply pressing the start button twice, so I am wondering if everyone's Mustang is requiring this extra step before it will do a remote start.

Any and all replies / tests / confirmations / etc are welcome.

Thanks everyone.

Well ... apparently I didn't see this in the PDF manual the first 3 times I read it but I just found it in my physical manual.

For anyone else who didn't read carefully:

YES, the sequence on the Mustang requires LOCK, then start button twice

Sorry guys.... maybe this one will at least help in the search archives

Don't know if you got this but this came with my car and I added it to my keyring until I know by hard how to auto-start.

Btw, This sequence, lock, start, start was done so there would be no accidental car starting. It is very easy to accidentally push the start button twice in your pocket. However, lock, start, start not so likely.

Good point. I do think it's easier to accidentally button push this remote than my Jeep one.

I just went and checked my other keys and sure enough - that's on the ring. I'm not sure if I tossed the other one or there was only one! So, Ford does their best to tell us, but I'm still "that guy" this time!

I bought this off e-bay, its real leather and helps protect the fob. Since its truly keyless, you almost never need to take it out of the case unless you want to auto-start. This will help with accidental button pushes in your jeans pocket.

Yeah, that was on my key chain, and I had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what I meant. I seriously stared at that thing for ten straight minutes without a clue what those images were supposed to represent. I had to read the manual to figure it out. Had no idea that the thing on the left was supposed to be an engine, and the circles meant nothing to me since the button on the key has a "2x" inside the circle. I didn't connect that in my mind. I might be an idiot.

As soon as I saw it, it knew it was the the auto-start sequence because it matches the icon logos on the fob buttons. It is safe to say I now have it memorized and can remove it from my keyring.

What did you originally think the Circle arrow button was for?

Well to be honest with you....ME BAD....maybe it was the excitement of the new car...I dunno...its the wifes car and I never really paid much attention to the key fob when I took delivery...I just put it in my pocket and forget about it.....the dealer pretty much gave me the keys and that's it...not much explanation on anything....it was several days later when we found out about the remote start by accident....I had to read the owners manual several times just to get familiar with the car....
