My quick review after having bolted the MagnaFlow Competition Catback today, and driving for about 30-40 minutes.
Initial Impressions:
First of all, you can hear them but just barely with the windows up, windows down you'll know there're there. And, when you get on it... They get loud. There is "some" drone @ around 2300 RPM, but keep it under and it's fine... Or, over and hear the roar. Also, I definitely hear popping, which IMO is awesome. I'm very eager to install my MAP CAI (once it gets here) I think the combination of this catback, and the noises of the intake will be sweet.
Aside from volume, the exhaust produces a very deep tone. It definitely sounds after market, but more importantly... NOT like a fart can. (I could tell, there was some idiot in a civic revving at me with said device) and his car sounded hollow, like metallic or a like a can, a fart can? My favorite thing has to be a cold start-up, it's awesome.
Volume:
If you have any doubts about the volume of the exhaust, go with street. I wanted something a bit louder, this being my first after market exhaust... But I can see how this may be too loud for some, and this delivers on that front. It's NOT a V8, and I didn't expect one, if you do, you will be disappointed. I can also say I really like this over the FRPP Touring (which is the only other exhaust I heard in person). Finally, the packaging was very well done, no dents or scratches on these. Big props for that to MF.
As everyone else has said, videos don't do the sound justice. Even with high end headphones or a full blown HT, I tried.
Remarks:
The tips on this exhaust are HUGE. I can fit my whole fist in one, and I don't have small hands. All in all, I'm pretty happy with my purchase. Hope this helps you make a decision, or solidify one already made.
Weight... I don't have a scale, but the stock exhaust has to be like 30 pounds heavier with the suitcase. Win-win, since you also get a hp/tq boost.
Installation:
Installation was very simple. It would be even easier with two people, it gets tricky when you have to remove the stock catback. I setup my car on ramps, did not lift the front. Loosening the two bolts to release the exhaust from the downpipe is a bit tight, but it can be done as long as you can see your toes while standing up. Bolting on the new parts was much easier as they are sections, which are more manageable. do not tighten the clamps all the way as you will have to play with alignment for a bit to get it just right. Really, alignment is the hardest part. Overall, you only have to remove two bolts and work with a few clamps, not hard to do. And, I just started getting my hands dirty & turning wrenches. The FMIC install was much more difficult, and time consuming. If you have to tools, save your self the money and bolt this on yourself.
Bonus:
Oh yeah, my girl's review... "Your car sounds different, and loud now... What the hell did you do". She's not an enthusiast, specially since I now have a large piece of "this metal thing" sitting in the house. This will be a challenge to store as it cannot be broken down into smaller sections, unless you cut it.
