Has anyone done the big update for the sync 3 from say version 2,2 or 2,3 to version 3?

this is not the automatic wifi update as its 2.3gig and needs new software not just and update, you have to go on the ford sync site download a zip file and install through usb.

however: I have tried doing this from a mac, and a PC, and putting it on a usb stick following instructions from the ford sync site.......and as soon as i plug in the USB stick it says "error detection please download again"

has anyone managed to do this?

Got the link? I may give this a go at the weekend, got very little planned!

Found my sync 3 to crash/freeze a few times when using sat nav

I think you have to format the usb stick to exfat for it to work

Yeah, I've done this. Pretty sure I formatted the USB drive as exfat and extracted the contents of the zip file straight to the freshly formatted drive.. The process took about half an hour and I let it upgrade whilst driving (as Ford said that's safe to do so). When you plug in the key it doesn't wait for confirmation, it automatically starts the upgrade which took me a little by surprise.

I did mine a while ago. From memory it was picky about which USB to use I found an old 4Gb USB stick that it worked on. It takes about 1/2 hour with the engine on so do it when you are travelling somewhere for at least that time - everything still seemed to work (radio/satnav etc) when it was updating.

Did mine on Monday, 2.2 to 3. I used an old 8Gb USB stick formatted exfat, plugged it into the usb port in the centre console and turned on.

It didn't recognise anything plugged in, didn't even show any progress so i went to the Sync update screen and hit look for updates. It then just sat there with the little waiting ring going round and round so i unplugged the usb stick, it then pops up on screen saying media disconnected installation paused. Confused at this point i plugged the USB back in and the message went away. I left it about 20 mins then powered off and locked the car thinking i'll try again next day.
Next morning when i started up i checked Sync version and it says 3 now

if anyone wants the update I am happy to send via we transfer to you...

all you would have to do, is download the file
unzip it
copy contents onto a 4gig or bigger ExFAT compatible USB
start your car
stick it in your center armrest and dont turn off car until it says all updated.
(it takes a couple of minutes for it to start)

if so I would need your email to send the zip file to.

It was pretty straightforward, im not sure all the confusion. Read the instructions from Ford, format the usb, download the file to usb and plug into car.

Well the confusion is that it don’t download correctly from a Mac!
And if you have no PCs to use .... it’s pretty dam confusing!
