Trying to upgrade Base Radio

Hi everyone,

First off i'm new to the forum. I pick up my 2017 GT PP tomorrow and im located in Maryland. :headbonk:. In a perfect world i would have gotten the PP and the premium trip how ever this isn't a perfect world and i cant afford both and i much rather have the PP. I'm looking at after market Head units and the one that keeps popping up is the Raxiom Navigation. to say the reviews are a bit mixed is an understatement. is there Anything else in the same price range? Sorry if this topic has been asking 1000 times already but i didn't see anything.

Honestly I'm just looking for better nav and the better screen for the reverse camera if you have a trusted site for the sync 3 can you send it my way?

I think people are doing the sync 3 upgrade on their own. There is a thread in this section about the swap. They finally made dash kits for these cars also but they are kind of pricey. There is a metra and scorsche kit. You can use one of those and a regular after market radio as well. I think there's a guy on here, at least there was, who sells the full SYNC 3 conversion kit. I would definitely get SYNC 3, I really enjoy mine and with the update you can use Apple Car Play or Android Auto, so you have access to navigation. You pay more for it but it's OEM and works and looks great. I try to stay OEM as much as possible on my cars, especially when they're newer, and the SYNC 3 is a pretty good system in my experience.

Easy to get android auto and Car play on after market systems. Ford isn't going to support a my touch system on a base car either. Have to go a round about way to get updates etc... Think given a choice I would go aftermarket on a car that didn't come with the touch screen in the first place. Have seen pics of the sync 3 install and still looks "hacked" together to me. All comes down to preference though.

False. Nothing about a Sync 3 swap looks hacked. How could it? It's all factory parts. What looks hacked is the Metra or Scosche install kits with the cheap ass Chinese HVAC controls.
As long as you have the VIN of the APIM that you install you can update via MyFord just like anyone with a Premium.
Aftermarket head units are NOT a night and day difference anymore. The basic Clarion boards in a Ford ACM are near identical to the aftermarket Clarion stuff. Same with Pioneer

When you have a cut bezel it doesn't look factory to me (see below pic). Not knocking this guys install but it doesn't look OEM to me. I like the look of the metra or scorsche kits better. My preference others may disagree which is why no one answer is correct in this case. Chinese AC controls you do realize that the factory controls are probably made in china too right? You are right aftermarket units aren't night and day difference sound quality wise if you run a dsp and fix the factory eq etc... That being said you can get features with aftermarket you can't from the factory. Front and rear cams, Flac support etc...

Ya but does the ford sync system downgrade 24bit 192khz flac to cd quality? Do you have a spec sheet to show this? I can't find any information to state weather it does or not. I also can't find anything stating that DSD is supported.
