Wow, you're right, I think that must be in km and not miles which would make it 419 miles and a bit more do-able, thanks for pointing it out!

I know, but this all grew out of a trip to Croatia, and lets face it, we have a Mustang, so why would we fly? Lets drive, lets turn it into an amazing round trip.

I already added in an extra night so we could go home via Switzerland, Luxembourg and Belgium, we can go back to Italy another time!

Looks like something I would do,
If you are the only driver, you will wear yourself out. The Eagles nest for instance will take at least half a day, and if you are not going with a tour, you will be pushed to the back. as the coaches get priority parking and are 1st into the place. Interesting place, mind you was surprised it was allowed to be used in the Amazon show. As you are told the only reason it was not blown to pieces was because Mr Sicko only used it a few times.
Also you have the Salt Mines nearby, and the destroyed ruins of the base. The actual town is totally fascinating also. Found Germany and Austria stunning places, and don't go by the the Google Maps eta, some of the roads can be pretty slow, the UK is not the only place with plenty of traffic. And a lot of these countries like Austria you have to have special tickets to drive on their motorways.
I done Germany and Austria over 22 nights, you have to give yourself breaks.
As for popping back via Switzerland and Lux and Belgium. if you are going on the passes they take hours.
There is so much to see in these countries.
And how can you count the UK? when you live here ;)
and here is a tip
When you book the ferry tell them you have a Classic Car and they will let you go on the Reserved level.
I done this for both our trips from Harwich there and back, loads of room and you are treated like a Star !!

+1 for those salt mines, they're really interesting and do take several hours to do on a tour.

This trip is following our 2 from last year where we had 5 nights in the Highlands and then a month later 5 nights in the Pyrenees from San Sebastien in Spain, into France, along the French side, through Andorra, back along the Spanish side, San Sebastien and home.

We've been to Austria a couple of times and have been into salt mines and a glacier so we're not intending to do those this trip but rather saving for next year ;) (yes, I might have started planning our 2018 trip but shhhh as I haven't told @Actual yet :lol: )

Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia all need vignettes to drive on the motorways but that's already been factored in to the cost.

We did talk about going to the Nurburgring but although it isn't too far off our route we'd end up staying there overnight and then have to lose a night somewhere else.

Mark's the main driver, I'll drive as and when although probably on motorways, as long as we don't lose our rear numberplate again as happened on our way up to Scotland last year!

A couple of years ago we travelled up from Chamonix-Mont Blanc to Cologne on a Friday, that was the worst journey ever in all my travels in Europe. The traffic was horrendous for 100's of miles.

I can concur with [MENTION=22082]goldengooner[/MENTION] that the Alpine passes, although short in miles can take hours longer than planned. The only reason we stopped off in Chamonix, was we were goosed after a day going through umpteen passes.

But Mark and Mindy are no strangers to euro trips and if you enjoy it, have a great time driving your Mustang, it's what it was built for ;).

We're going back to the South of France this year, so looking forward to Provence again, the roads are fantastic, but we'll be having a week there and taking 3-4-5 days on the way down and the same on the way back. Our style is 3-4 hours driving max, get to the destination after lunch, chill out and then explore restaurants/cafes in the evening. Had a terrific adventure in Italy last year, all the better going there in a Mustang

If I lived in the south of England, I'd be over in Europe, driving, on every holiday. After this year, my next goal is Santander/Bilbao diagonally through Spain, Madrid, then onto Gibraltar (served there with the Army), loved going up to Ronda of a weekend
