I'd like some opinions (ideally from people who don't own GT350's as well as owners)
Is it a douche move to rev the engine for someone if they haven't asked to hear the engine?.
Yesterday I'm walking into a Tim Hortons and theres a GT350 in the drive thru, driver has his window down so I give him the thumbs up and "nice car", he says Thanks and revs the engine (sport mode)... the place is packed with several cars in line behind him and lots of people walking in and out.
Everyone's head turns to look.
The reason I'm asking the question is I'm conflicted on weather or not this is a douchy thing to do.
I liked the fact he did it because I love hearing the sound of it and this was on a Thursday during the work day, my car was at home undriven since Sunday.
BUT.. I have been in that same situation several times in my own car and NOT revved the engine. even though I suspect the person complimenting me would have appreciated hearing it (as I did) because it FELT douchy
Keep in mind these factors before ranking it on the douche-o-meter:
-lots of regular people around (non car enthusiasts.. trust me I could tell)
-he did not know I owned one
-there was no reason he needed to rev, he wasn't moving
-from the perspective of the OTHER people around who are in earshot but not involved in this interaction...

"Douchy" 2- 3- 4 - who cares- 6- 7 -8- 9 "not only acceptable but REQUIRED"

Would it be a douche move to ask him to rev the engine in that same situation?

I guess when reving you've always got to be aware of your surroundings.

A few years ago while I owned a 370Z, I father with his 2 kids yelled at me for revving in my parking spot before I even put it in reverse. I was showing off a little for my son, but the other guy thought I was going to run over his kids.

agreed
It depends a lot on your surroundings
I can imagine some situations where I wouldn't do it even when asked to.

I had a guy try to yell at me because he thought I was going "way too fast" through a neighborhood. I was going 20, less than the typical speed limit. He refused to believe me and cussed me out in front of his kid. Classy dude.

Really just seems like anyone who doesn't appreciate a car will think you're douche if you rev. They will also likely think you're a douche just for having a nicer car. People are douches.

People do that with any car that "looks fast"

I had the same thing happen when a had an Eclipse of all cars. But to get me to stop he walked into the road in front of me. I had that car when I was in my 30s and people always assumed I was younger. (I bought it because it was a cheap sporty car and I just got back from overseas)

He said I was going too fast and I replied that I was under the limit.

I then told him that he was doing more harm, by teaching his kid it was ok to walk in the street in front of cars.

I get it all the time because everything I own is loud! People think your going way faster than you really are and have to be the noise Police. I try to be very considerate of others especially in the morning. I put my Diesel Super Duty in 3rd gear when I leave at 5am because it sounds like a 747 flying directly overhead if I don't... The Vette I just take out of Sport mode and will do the same with the GT350 when I get it. The big problem here is everyone wanting to Race! Even in my big ole F250 the kids think I'm going to race them from a light! Now I have a couple times while down in Mexico put a couple in their place on the Interstates down there  That beast will wrap the 100 mph speedo quick at 42psi and just keep on truckin :headbang: I've embarrassed a few dudes in front of their girlfriends.

To the OP I generally never Rev unprovoked and only around friends or somewhere that it's commonplace to do so. It is pretty douchey IMO.

Just kidding. C'mon it's Timmies it's ricer heaven! I don't think it's that bad, it's not like it's a longtube + catless catback which would be insanely loud to do in a situation like that. People will react to any loud noise they hear usually. I'm sure they weren't pissed about it. It wasn't early morning on the way to work or late at night either.

The line of thinking is most likely "Hey this guy appreciates my car let me give it a little rev I'm sure they'll be stoked". I sure would be if someone gave me a rev if I threw a thumbs up. I can absolutely see where you're coming from though.

Don't invest too much thought into it it's rather minor compared to some of the stuff I see in Timmies lots and on the road. I'm sure lots of non car people can still appreciate it. I can tell you're not "that guy" don't sweat it.

Maybe I'll see you around and rev at you :D

One rev is okay. If you keep revving people might get annoyed thinking you are an idiot.

I had the same thing happen to me in my '94 Cobra years ago. People are idiots.

My immediate thought on this subject is "this guy has a GT350 in the drive through of a fast food joint?"

I hope he isn't planning on eating donuts or other food items in the car and getting frosting on the steering wheel, dropping french fries under the seat etc. etc.
As for revving the engine...I don't really care too much about that.

just for fun..........

What about people on the highway that egg you on? It has happened way more in this car than in any of my other sports car I have owned. It's like the GT350 is a rev magnet for some others. I do rev when appropriate.
