Hello everyone, At this time I don't want to replace my 18x8 Foundry wheels but I do want some more grip and width. I'm sold on the extreme contact DW summer tire. Why is it that I see tons of people upgraded there pre-15 mustang to this size but not the s550? Diameter is 27" which is only .3" lass than stock and still bigger diameter than pp 19's.
Even on American muscle they sell this size for 11-14 mustangs.
Any input would be great.
Thanks

I've been considering that size and tire also. I don't see why not. Grippier tires and a lot more tread width but still fits properly on the rim.

From what I'm reading, tread width is also determined by wheel width so on a 8" we won't look as wide as say a 8.5" wide wheel.
I also was thinking about doing the 1"spacer when I do the tires to give the more aggressive stance but I'm not getting any feedback as to any negative handling effects or spray onto car since tire won't be as deep in wheel well

I'm in the same boat. I think some of the previous mustangs had 18x8.5s. The 235/50 already looks like it's bulging over the end of the wheel and makes me wonder if 255/45 will fit even but tirerack and others say it will.

Go for the Conti's, I'm big fan of them. Had them on my previous ride.

The Conti has a very square sidewall profile, so you actually do get more tread width.

The ideal size for a 8" rim is a 245 series tire.

I went with 245/45/18.

Only problem is that it's ~0.5" smaller diameter than stock, so speedo will be off (but in the conservative direction) and wheel gap is bigger. On the plus side, better acceleration.

245/45r18 is probably perfect width but you are sacrificing another .3" in diameter from the 255/45r18 which is .3" less than 235/50r18.
I don't want the wheel well to have more noticeable gap is my big thing
235/50r18- 27.3"
255/45r18- 27"
245/45r18- 26.7"

It will be noticeable. My winter tires are 27.8" and they fill out the well better for sure.

Yep...at indicated speed of 70MPH I'm really doing 68MPH according to GPS.

Also will an alignment be needed when putting on new rubber that's a different size?
