I changed out my MT82 fluid this morning for Royal Purple Synchromax. Since then, I put about 50 miles on the car to let it settle in before passing judgement.

In short, while I didn't see the night and day difference others have seen, I do see a slightly noticeable improvement in shifting.

A slight gear whine noise I had is gone. Also, since I have an aftermarket shifter (the MGW), it is natural to have some shift knob vibration. This seems to be somewhat less as well.

All in all, I think it was worth doing even though I didn't see a profound difference in shift quality.

Cheers,
John

I replaced the MT82 trans fluid with the RP last week. Like you, I noticed a slight improvement in shifting smoothness (approx.15-20%), but old gremlins are still present, just slightly less so.

Same here. Changed to RP few weeks back, mostly because I had it, similar impressions. Will change to BG next time.

I changed to RP last month and it feels a lot better.

I used 1 quart od Synchromax and 2 of their 75/90. I have found on my previous car that using only Synchromax doesn't feel better as the fluid is to thin.

So how did it feel vs using all synchromax and using one bottle of 75/90 which I assume is RP, I've been using RP synchromax for months now and its much better but just a tab of gear nibble when still cold.

Do you have a link for the BG fluid? I hear some people using the MT-82 overfilled by 1/2 to 1 at of fluid for high rpm shifting with the previous yrs.

From a guy who knows a thing or two about these transmission's...

I find it amusing while this thread is about improving the issues that many recognize with this transmission, there's another thread where people are chasizing a guy who was unhappy with his M6 and are calling people noobs and telling them they don't know how to drive...

Changed out the OEM fluid with RP Synchromax yesterday. It is an improvement. Not a huge difference but the shifts are smoother with less notchiness. Slides into the next gear a little easier.

Anyone adding this MT82 additive when you swap out the OEM fluid for Royal Purple? Not sure if it's really needed and just wondering what others think.

Thanks.

XL-18 is used only.to break in new Syncros. Ford used it on the first OEM oil swap in our car (2nd fill) because I made them. Do not use additives with non Ford Oils, they should already have what they need.

Thanks, Tommy. I appreciate your guidance. I didn't think it was needed but wanted to ask around.
