But honestly other than coil overs the GT came with a hardy suspension kit. I just added lowering springs a watts linkage and tubek cross body all for about 3k

Thread tidied. Let's keep the conversation to the Mach 1 mule.

I don't think there will be a Mach 1 unless they decide to do a quick supercharged 5.0.

I think what we are seeing are some of the suggested changes coming in 2018.

I'm not sure how much weight is expected to come out of the panels. There could be a good bit more aluminum up front this time.

With the high monthly sales, who knows what has changed since 2014. I think the 2018's MSRP will increase from $33k to $34,595-$35,795.

A lot can be added for $1200-$1500 per car.

The car shown could be any number of things - you guys should know better than trying to infer too much from a mule. The first S550 I drove looked deceptively like a red late model S197 that was missing the sill covers, but under the hood... An early S197 mule I got a look at years ago during winter test was a Lincoln LS with a Mustang nose grafted on from the axle centerline forward. Mule vehicles can be anything and mean anything, so don't read too much into them.

By the same token, since it seems confirmed that the '18MY will have a bit of updating and isn't close enough yet to have preproduction cars built yet, there will still be a lot of mules running around to support that. It doesn't indicate anything about any sort of special model. And, FWIW, at this point I think its too early for the car to be an S650 mule. I wouldn't be surprised if the standard '18 GT gets enough of a boost in performance that, again, there's no reason to believe a special edition will be needed immediately.

Tied to that - look at it this way: Ford wants to roll out models in such a way as to keep interest bubbling. So, the standard coupe comes out first for '15MY. Then 6-8 mo. later, the convertible is introduced. Late in '15, for '16MY for all intents and purposes, they add the GT350 to the line up. While that does leave '17 as sort of a carry over year, the car gets a mid-cycle update for '18, which will start production in summer '17.

So, with that in mind, it doesn't really make sense from a marketing perspective to also introduce a Mach1 model at the same time as a refresh. The main update alone will keep people excited. If there is another SE coming, it makes more sense for it to be either late '18 or '19MY. So, for once, I agree with The Pill - even though he does refer to himself in the third person... And not for nothing, even though they've already dipped into this well twice, late '18 marks the 50th anniversary not only of the original Mach1, but also of the movie Bullitt. So, who knows what Ford might do? They have a few options when they do get around to the next SE model.

Right now, there is no concrete evidence that any new variants are planned - Mach1, Bullitt, or GT500, just lots of internet speculation. But the it seems that there is a statistical likelihood that they'll do something before then end of S550 production, if as a send off than for any other reason. But what it'll be and when is just a bunch of WAGs at this point, at least for those of us on the outside...

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you've just written. It would not surprise me at all to see the '18MY launched with just the "standard" models, and then see a Mach 1 later in the model year........with hopefully a GT500 to follow for the '19MY.

That being said, it would be even cooler to see them launch the Mach 1 alongside the rest of the range when the '18MY is announced.

I also assume Ford won't have any Mustang related surprises at the New York show next week!

I'm still not convinced that a GT500 is in the cards at all, based on everything I've seen. And I personally believe that any SE will be for '19MY, rather than an '18.5, but Ford may well decide to pull things up if they perceive it necessary for competitive reasons.

For the record, I'd bought into the '18 Mach1 enough to have previously structured my own budget plan around being in a position to purchase one late next year. But after sorting through the reasoning outlined above, I just don't see it. If an SE model doesn't arrive, as I believe, until '19, I may have to satisfy myself by picking up a used Boss instead in the mean time. Obviously not an S550, nor the new hotness anymore, but still cool - and still a vehicle I have a personal connection to. Anyway, I digress...

I do want to point out, though, that if the SE is a '19MY, there is still the '20MY to do something with before S650 arrives for '21. That might mean that the SE will have a two year run, or it might mean that there will be two 1-year SE models...
