I know there are probably a ton of these threads already, but for those that have been on the fence like me I figured I'd add one more.
After years of reading/lurking on all the various Mustang forums I finally pulled the trigger on a 2016 GTPP. The MT-82 still worried me but seems to be holding up better in general that the last generations. We'll see.
Ended up buying from Koons in Baltimore. Worked with Pete Dixon (thanks @Khyber ) and Mark Rodgers. Great price and they beat my credit unions loan terms too!
Ok, on to impressions. First of all, I was a bit nervous driving home. Although most of the cars in my sig were manuals I have barely driven a stick in many years and keep hearing how tricky the clutch engagement is on this car is. Plus I had to drive it home to NJ on summer tires in 25 degree weather.
So driving the stick was much better/easier than I expected. No stalls in first gear. Clutch engagement seemed fine. Although I ordered that lighter Steeda clutch spring I am wondering if that's necessary. Going through the gears was smooth even in the 25 degree weather. No grinds or bites of any sorts. I actually kind of like the shifter. I did screw up a couple of downshifts along the way but I think that's because I was rusty and just need some seat time in this car.
Sitting in the car the first time and for the first hour or so, the front of the car seemed soooo long. It was a bit disconcerting. But in no time I got used to it. Adjusting the seat so I was a little higher up seemed to help. The car does feel big though.
Again in the first hour or so my ride felt bouncier than expected. Then it seemed to settle down and felt firm but comfortable. Certainly not to harsh as some seem to be worried about. I definitely could tolerate it being a bit firmer too.
Because I forgot my EZ pass, I was able to get some nice pulls in after stopping for tolls and row the gears. Damn...car feels fast. Feels like it wants to keep pulling. That rev limiter comes up quick in first gear! Probably didn't follow the recommended break in procedure! I can't even imagine what this car will feel like with some bolt ons and a tune, never mind forced induction. Seriously, you forced induction guys must be a little crazy!
Loved the brakes. I've seen some describe them as being to sensitive or grabby but I had no issues with that whatsoever.
I really didn't get a chance to play with the handling as I didn't want to mess around with that on summer tires in that cold weather.
As far as looks....the car is amazing looking. I was stunned at how good it looked. Haven't seen all that many up close. I love all sorts of cars (not a Ford fanboy) but damn Ford knocked it out of the park on this.
Interior looks great too. I followed the recommendation of several on this forum on the the premiere trim option ($395).
Love the car. Let the modding begin. GT350 intake and BMR handling springs (thanks @MustangCollector ) in the garage. @Need4SpeedMotors project 6GR wheels ordered, ARH full headers system on the way. Trying to figure out tuning next.
My only concern is that I bought the car while my wife was away and she doesn't know yet. I may be sleeping in it soon!
