I just hope that Ford does not implement AFM on the 5.0 to comply with the CAFE standards.... Just like Chevrolet did with their LT engines.....

Why?

AFM helps the A8 SS Camaro hit 30+ MPG on the highway. If DI/PI and AFM help the GT hit that...bring it on.

Why? I'll tell you why..... Have you heard what it sounds like when it drops down to 4..... Try that with Borla 'S' type exhaust or something similar and things go from bad to worse..... Since I've had both, L99 and LS3.... I can tell you that from experience. Thanks but no thanks.... You can keep your AFM.

Here's a question for anyone who may know:

By the time we find out what changes will be made to the 2017 model year, if any, do you think it will still be possible to place an order for a 2016 model?

The reason I ask is that it is possible Ford may decide to cosmeticaly alter the front fascia and rear end and offer no mechanical upgrades at all. If this is the case and I don't find the new design to be appealing, I would want a 2016 as I think the current look to be damn near perfect(especially the rear end).

I know, I know; Most people are going to say if you like the current look so much just go ahead and buy a 2016. I would, if it wasn't for holding out in the hope Ford will offer the Performance Pack with the auto transmission. This thread is rife with many unrealistic changes to the 2017 but I think this one is wholly possible, not to mention feasible, as it requires no real alterations to the structure/platform.

The deal is you don't have to USE the AFM, at least in my corvette which was a manual it would never switch unless you put it in eco mode.

If it keeps V8s around for longer I strongly welcome it. Even if I'll never use it.

My gosh man get out there and get a steal of a deal on any 2015s left. This s550 is not changing for awhile. Think about the time and money that went into engineering this beautiful Ford. This feat wasnt undertaken to anticipate changes just two years down the road. Am I right?? Anyone??

Amen. I agree with you completely. However, the change I'm waiting for as detailed in my post is NOT a major change at all. Really, it's not even actually a change, rather a reconfiguration of existing options. With that said, I think that it is quite a realistic chance Ford may yet offer the Performance Pack with the auto transmission.

I would much rather buy an already factory optimized suspension setup than have to tinker with mixing various aftermarket parts. Been there, done that. It was fine and dandy when I was twenty and had plenty of spare time on my hands but those days are long gone.

I think you're right: the 50th Anniv. Limited Edition (alone) was available with PP and auto.

There will always be changes, but not like a next gen change like you are referring.

You'll see things like the transmission, possibly performance pack on the auto, MRC, new exhaust set-up, updated fascia/tails, etc. and more major the engines.

What you sound like you are describing is a next gen...no one is expecting radical changes like that.

Yes and no

We have a member here who works at Ford's transmission plant and has said that they're working on replacing the 6R80 with the 10 speed and the A6 is starting it's "sunset"

The 10 speed auto is going to be the default transmission for the Ford F series trucks, starting with the 2017 Raptor.

It's only economically sensible to have one common auto transmission for RWD vehicles.

With higher CAFE standards looming, Ford needs to squeeze every bit of MPG out of every car they can, and the A10 will help the 5.0 turn only around 1,000-850 RPM at 65-75 MPH...that certainly wont hurt MPG

Not to mention, Euro Mustangs come with pretty much the Performance Pack as standard (although it's not called PP), minus the Torsen diff............and that can be had as an automatic

I guess it's feasible they could test the new transmission in plain sight......no need for camo in that instance. But if the new tranny isn't coming until '18MY, I guess they'd wait to test it alongside all the other changes that model year brings. And, if that's the case, I guess we might start to see camo'd mules within the next 6 months?

What TT said. But yes, there could be 10 speeds in plain sight and you'd never know it. You won't see many test mules going forward till the G7 car. Minor refreshes of designs like the front/rear and other things don't require them really taking them out as much as a new generation car unless there are significant changes. More then likely you'll see the GT500 out there or any special edition vs the standard S550.

Ford had a very 'meh' Detroit show compared to last years knocking the socks off...we'll know more if anything is in store from Ford with the Mustang from the Chicago/NY auto shows coming up in Feb/March.
