Thus far I have had a really good relationship with ZL1 Addons as a sponsor. Been very happy with their products, and my dealings with the owner John. Recently they were the solution to another "problem."

Almost all of us have to deal with the delimma of the front license plate. Some hate it all together, but given my personalized plate I would rather have it visible. I had Craigs custom bracket on my first GT350 and it worked fine. The mounting bracket for that setup attaches with 3M double sided tape. This time around I had my car ceramic coated before I installed the base, and sure enough it lost its bond after a while. The ceramic coating is doing its job, so no discredit to Craig.

ZL1 Addons has a front license plate bracket that screws into the tow hook mount, but I enjoy having the titanium hook on all the time. I figured that there had to be a mounting bracket ZL1 could make that would allow me to put another tow hook bracket on the passenger side for just the plate. Sure enough, I called John and he had one in stock. Apparently Shelby American had requested some custom made pieces for the passenger side, and John had one laying around. 2 days later I had the bracket and got it installed. Now I can run both the plate and hook without issue. Also should I ever have a nightmare scenario that I cant get the car pulled from the driver side, the passenger side is now an option too.

In any case, here are some photos I took if it installed. Car is dirty and the weather was gloomy, but this car is not going to be a garage queen. Enjoy, and call ZL1 Addons direct if you want the passenger side bracket.

 Nice kit but the real answer is getting your legislature to eliminate the front plate!

Tow hook is nice too.

I just use their kit that attaches to the tow hook point which isn't needed on the street. I know I'm captain obvious here but in case some members didn't know about that option I figured I'd bring it up.

Their GoPro mount on the tow hook is cool. You have a discount code for it? :D

Honestly, I'm not a fan of this solution and am glad my current state only issues 1 license plate. That said, it is still the best solution I've seen for those needing a front plate bracket.

That'll never happen in CA.

I still am amazed you were able to get this license plate to begin with given the number of Star Wars fans out there

So you just thread the tow hook in at autocross/track without needing to worry about the grille? I thought the locking ring on the tow-hook didn't fit through the grille.

Related, a picture of your car from October, lol

Great pic, thanks for that and the driving tips riding shotgun! The plate bracket threads into the bar extending out from the grill (bar is always in place poking out from the grill). Works great. Installs in about a minute.

Then the tow hook threads into the same bar? I assume it does, cause you have the towhook installed. If so, I'll have to order a license plate bracket just to get that extension piece... I'm not a big fan of permanently installed tow hooks.

sorry about the silly questions, I've never seen the license plate bracket setup before for the GT350 (thank you, PA! no silly front plates) and I'm adding a tow hook to my car for track use and I don't want it installed all the time :)

glad to help out! I didn't notice I was riding along on that run. my dead weight surely doesn't help the balance of the car, hah

Doc, what I would do is use loctite on the bolt that hols the hex adapter in 50_Deep original post. That way you should be able to take the shaft that the tow hook bolts to out without the hex adapter coming loose. There is no need for the license plate bracket if that is what you're going for.

I guess I just need to get the tow hook and test fit and such to see what I need to do. I'm impatient, I've got a couple of months to figure this out :)

Thanks!

I installed the tow hook and have the plate holder. I think the license plate holder looks awesome. However, it was a royal PITA to pull the whole front bumper and the instructions they provide are horrible (and I am mechanically inclined). Ford definitely should have installed a tow hook or at least a receiver for one from the factory. After all, they bragged on this being a track car and most if not all tracks require a tow hook. BMW installs a tow hook receiver for most cars and not just M cars, and the new ZL1 has one from the factory.

Here's pic. Allen key bolt (circled) threads into rod that always stays in place. Remove the bolt and the plate bracket comes off. Tow hook threads into the void created by removing the bolt.
