Would you buy a 16-18 GT350? For what discount vs. 19-20?

The changes to engine were introduced for the 2019 model year. The 20-30 more hp claim has been debunked multiple times. There was a huuuuuuuuge thread on that in this forum. Just FYI.
I stand corrected. Model Year 2019.

Regarding the power, I was going off of a dyno done by Motortrend and another I saw on a forum.

Yeah man that was a pretty famous article but those numbers have never been reproduced by anyone else as far as I know.

Interesting thread and the GT350 is no longer produced. I do not know of anyone nor dealers discounting GT350’s. In fact any 2020s siting around will have ADM on them IMO. Good luck on your search but I think no matter what year the 350s for the most part are all very nice.

When I say "discount" I mean how much less would a 16-18 have to cost vs. a 19-20. The older cars will naturally cost less because they're older, but I assume there's a noticeable additional difference in value for 18 vs. 19 cars given the substantial updates.

I had a 16 with zero oil consumption. I had zero issues with it. I went with a 19R and still have zero consumption. Given a choice I would stick with the 19/20 but, nothing wrong with the earlier cars.

Video was pretty solid except, the 19R did receive ABS upgrades.

How much less depends on the year.

Good info, thank you. I saw another dyno that wasn’t quite as high, but was in the 480s. Correction factors, dyno type and environment could all be reasons for the variance.

I am not modding for power and the 2017 it is fast enough anyways so I didn’t give it much consideration or further research.

I've had a '17 for close to a year now and I've beaten the piss out of it numerous times. Burnouts, donuts, through the winter: You name it.

Still running strong and I've had zero oil consumption. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if given the chance. That's how awesome this car is.

It seemed to be largely computer controlled upgrades to ABS from the article I read. Is it possible to gain the new settings through a flash at the dealer?

Correct, ABS is changed through programing and as of now, no way to upgrade earlier cars as far as I know.

I had 3 Rs at one point. I have 2 now. 2 were 17s and one is an 18. No significant oil consumption here.

I think the issue was blown out of proportion.
Appreciate all of the details in the video but certainly agree with you that much of what was stated is being blown out of proportion.

I have been very fortunate to have owned 6 GT350/R's included a 2015 Tech Pack and Track Pack along with R models from 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020.

On many occasions each of these vehicles (sans the 2015 Track Pack car) have been driven extremely hard (full throttle & regularly shifting at 7,500+ RPM) including the 2015 Tech Pack car and not on one occasion has any of these engines shown any sign of problems or issues and that includes excessive oil consumption.

The total driven mileage for this group of vehicles comes in at 17,000+ miles therefore based on my experience of ownership I absolutely agree that the reliability issue has certainly been blown out of proportion.

As far as the comment regarding one engine builder versus two for each Voodoo powerplant from the Romeo Niche engine plant, now that one made me chuckle.

I personally don't see a huge price reduction on low mileage and well cared for 2016 to 2018 cars unless the mileage is quite high and the vehicle condition is poor.

I recently attended a small auction in Tulsa, Oklahoma in June and watched a 2016 GT350R Base model sell for $93,500.

Yes, it was a low mileage car but believe that it had no remaining warranty and still commanded at great price.

Will the 2019 and 2020 cars command more money than earlier models going forward, no question but not as much more as one might expect.

Thanks all for the inputs. I test drove a GT350 for the first time this afternoon and wow, what a noise, what a car. I was very disappointed to see the OEM carbon fiber applique on the 2019 example I drove already peeling up all over the car. While I assume Ford would replace this under warranty, is this a common problem? The carbon fiber looks nice in photos but it seemed extremely cheap and aftermarket in person because it was clearly just a sticker.

As far as I know, the only factory carbon fiber option (and only for 19 and 20 model years) was the middle dash, AKA instrument panel. Those are aftermarket pieces, and poor fitting ones at that.

The trim piece to the right of the center console is factory as well isn't it?
